there are countless sexual predators on our campus. many of them are repeat offenders, at liberty to victimise more students because of a redressal system which isn’t fit for purpose. the university is also aware of NUMEROUS predators on staff, and have failed to act.

the catalyst was a petition by the wondeful aarti, a survivor of sexual violence and student at UoE. after being raped in uni accommodation, she turned to the equally safe — or, as it is known amongst students, the equally UNsafe — team for support and justice. she got neither.

the sdc were supposed to decide upon a punishment for the man who victimised aarti. instead, they victim blamed her and overturned the investigation’s ruling. throughout this process, aarti was completely and utterly let down by the equally safe team.

aarti was discouraged from going to the police, and told the university would not support her if she did. she pursued justice through a student conduct investigation. the investigation determined the guilt of the rapist. it then went to the student disciplinary committee.

aarti went into that meeting believing it was over, that the ruling was final. they did not prepare her for the questioning she would receive from the SDC — although after the fact acknowledged they weren’t trained in trauma informed questioning.
