Regarding the weekend winter storm event, I see a lot of people discussing snow amounts (as usual) and then also mentioning (sometimes) the icing potential for over 0.5" icing. Given the expected winds, we are looking at potential for Level 3 or 4 on this icing index.

There's a strong tendency to focus on the snow amounts, but please keep in mind the bitter cold and very low wind chills which follow this storm. It may literally be the worst you've ever seen. Err on the side of caution.

Good Tuesday morning. The good news is that NWS snowfall forecasts are much better coordinated this morning. The bad news is that they have decided it is going to snow a lot. Amounts have drifted a little higher from yesterday. And, yeah, that was a bad pun.

There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor. Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!
