Pan Am purser Neerja Bhanot was killed protecting passengers on Pan Am 73. For her bravery she received India's highest award for bravery. All of us at Pan Am are thankful for her and her fellow crew members.
We pause on this day to remember that September morning that forever changed air travel and would cost the lives of so many innocent people. We remember also, all the victims of terror around the world.

We haven’t given the DC-10 much love of late so here it is. The 17 Pan Am DC-10s that flew in the fleet were acquired from the National Airlines merger in 1980. They would eventually be withdrawn from service by April 1985.
We were just told today that we are the largest Twitter account in terms of followers of an airline that no longer flies or exists. Is this true? We only exist here to help share the history of Pan Am.

Pan Am did extensive recruiting and hiring in Japan and Hawai‘i to obtain Japanese language qualified crews. And did you know that every Pan Am flight attendant was foreign language qualified including some who were qualified in sign language? Pan Am was simply the best.
Pan Am’s Boeing 747SP. Designed specifically for Pan Am’s long routes, this “Special Performance” 747 was introduced by Pan Am in 1976 on the New York-Tokyo route.

Pan Am flew the Lockheed L-1011-500 on its long range South American routes with 36 First Class and 202 Economy Class passengers.

Captain Daniel “Dan” Ernest Lorenzo in front of Pan Am’s Boeing 707 Clipper Swordfish in the early 1970s. You could not beat the experience flying with a Pan Am Clipper Captain.
In 1978, Pan Am experimented with color on three of its 747 aircraft. After several test applications of orange, yellow and turquoise the project was immediately discontinued.
The very first Boeing 747 produced has a very familiar logo on its nose as it should. Pan Am was the launch customer for the Boeing 747. “No Pan Am, no Boeing 747” as they say.
