A note on terminology which has many people confused: One individual cannot be "neurodiverse". The correct term is "neurodivergent". There is no "neurodiverse condition", it is "types of neurodivergence". The word 'condition' goes against the concept of neurodiversity.

Inaccessibility - when GPs only offer appointments by patients needing to ring up at 8am this creates heaps of stress & anxiety for disabled / #neurodivergent people. Add on "you've got to be quick cos they fill up pretty much at 8.05". Does anyone else find this problematic?

When someone is in crisis, executive functioning goes offline. It can be near impossible to access "skills" that require cognitive work. What's needed is self-regulation and co-regulation. #mentalhealth

i don’t like when i’m actively suicidal and told to “use my skills“ it really irritates me because if it was that simple i wouldn’t be reaching out for help because it takes me a lot to do that.

@susanthomsonslt You're missing the point. Yes people can be experts. But Historically NT academics/professionals have called themselves 'autism experts' which is offensive to us since we've been oppressed, marginalised, silenced. It's be like a heterosexual person saying they're an LGBTQ+ expert

I learnt a thing today - 'asynchronous communication' - when someone sends a message without expecting an instant response (email, voice notes, txts etc). As an #autistic SLT I value all methods of comm'n - BUT this is my preferred way to communicate and express/describe my ideas
