Thank you for all of the birthday wishes today. I was fortunate to spend my birthday meeting about improving patient care and outcomes as well as an opportunity to play golf with a Navy SEAL. I finished it off with meeting one of my favorite influencers, Dr. Glaucomflecken.

This bill is essential for the future of healthcare. Most Americans don’t know that doctors’ pay is tied to the federal budget, not the actual cost of providing care. It’s criminal. Hospitals and ASCs get annual increases based on cost of care unlike doctors. Fix this ASAP!

This bi-partisan bill would link the #Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) to the Medicare Economic Index (MEI) and if enacted before this year would have meant a +3.8% increase in the MPFS instead of the -2.1% cut in '23. As sh…

Podiatrists are pushing legislation in Texas that would mandate allowing privileges to perform procedures at hospitals. This upends a process designed to ensure patient safety. Look at this brochure showing they believe they are better trained than an orthopedic surgeon!

Proud to represent orthopedics today and attend my first AMA meeting. Together we can make a difference but apart we will be ineffective and allow medicine to be shaped by non-physicians.

@orthochick @nytimes @ChrisDHamby The irony here is that physician owned hospitals would save money for the healthcare system and in particular create competition for insurers to reduce their inpatient and outpatient hospital costs yet they refuse to support us in the fight. The public deserves to know the truth

Sounds exactly like what every self insured employer deals with when they contract with United. They think they’ve paid their bill only for MultiPlan and United to come back and extort additional amounts for “saving” them money from the original amount.

In the last 24 hours we had a bill introduced to solve the nearly 5% cuts physicians face next year and the House passed the prior authorization reform bill today. Great momentum from a hard week of work. Lots of work still to do for long term solutions!

Great article on the potential upside and downside of AI in healthcare. AI has a tremendous opportunity in areas like prior authorization if done correctly. Unfortunately too much of the process is opaque, leading to a loss of trust by physicians and patients.

Health insurers love to proclaim how they are using artificial intelligence to speed up administrative tasks and "lower costs." But when @brittanytrang asked them to elaborate, many clammed up. The use of AI in health care is hardly transparent.

@trollietrolly In many states there is a ban on the corporate practice of medicine which prevents the non-physician owner from making clinical decisions. The contracts will reflect that only clinical decisions are left to the physician but control over everything else is given to the employer
