Why do we think we can import Dutch models of high quality home care when they spend 4.3%GDP on long term care and UK only spend 1.2%GDP? Forthcoming Social Care Green Paper and NHS LTP must address funding and delivery of long term care.

Images, like language, shape the way we think about old age and ageing. Given so many more of us are living longer, itโs time we started using more realistic. We hope this library will be a valuable resource for anyone who wants to depict the diversity of later life.
๐ฃ AGE-POSITIVE LIBRARY LAUNCHED ๐ฃ
We have launched a free library of positive and realistic images of people aged 50 and over.
The images, which depict older people in non-stereotypical ways, are available for download and free to use.

"Older people are portrayed as a homogeneous group to be managed or mollycoddled, rather than a group of diverse and active citizens with rights."
I write about the language around ageing after the release of
@Ageing_Better
's new report around ageism.
The current portrayal of older people is so negative, with disability and decline unfairly presented as inevitable consequences of ageing. Unless we take action now, we will see the continued marginalisation of our ageing population.
It was great to be part of this report:
Without action we could see many in their 50s and 60s falling out of the workforce years before their state pension age and struggling to get by until they are able to draw their pension.

After many months of hard work, today marks the release of my new book, The Age of Ageing Better? A Manifesto For Our Future.
It presents a refreshingly optimistic vision for the future that could change the way we value later life in every sense.
Itโs been a busy week at Labour conference. I have been speaking about the need to value and support carers, the importance of safe, affordable and accessible homes, how we shift care into the community, and innovate in social care.
#LabConf24
Feels like we talk about transformation and new models of care and yet assume the professional roles we have had for the past 100 years will serve us for the future. Where are the radical ideas?
