Rwandan gov't figures of the dead in genocide memorial sites, contrasted with the official numbers of the Tutsis who lived in respective localities, reveal a glaring disparity. Per the figures, one hard fact emerges: The number of the Hutus dead is almost double the Tutsis.

The only neighbouring country leader missing at Ugandan President Museveni's swearing in today is, ironically, one of the 27 armed men who attacked Kabamba in 1981, starting a 5-year war that brought Museveni to power in 1986. M7 would later help the leader capture power in 1994.

Apropos the court of appeal's verdict in Brugiere's case; 3 things to note. 1. Insufficient evidence doesn't mean innocence. 2. Case not definitely dismissed. Could new evidence emerge, case can be resumed. 3. The victims can challenge the decision in the court of cassation.

The Court of Appeal of Paris has dismissed the "Bruguiere Case", on appeal. The first instance court also dismissed it. This so called Bruguire Case has been a travesty of justice, a total and complete farce that should not have happened in the first place.

Disinformation isn't a preserve of Kremlin. I saw a tweet today claiming Denmark sent asylum seekers to Rwanda, but for opposition, deal died prematurely. I also read that UK did the same. Fanatical newsmen jumped on it. Absent connection and consent, deal is dead (legally).

Steve is absolutely right. A treaty is law (see art 38, ICJ statute. For beginners, the Vienna Convention on Law of Treaties, art 26, binds states that have ratified a treaty, and states can't invoke national law as a justification for failure to abide by the treaty (art 27).

Treaties are law at international level. Parliament is sovereign to pass domestic legislation that might breach treaties, but it does not follow that it is *above* treaties. In a dualist country like the UK, domestic and international law are simply two different spheres of law.

Terribly misleading report. The new law doesn't bar refugees and asylum seekers from engaging in political activities. In basic terms, it requires them to seek permission from the Home Affairs Ministry to engage in such activities. Big difference.

@danielmgmoylan And not a la carte menu where state A decides what works for it and ignores what doesn't. That's done in treaty negotiations. After state A is bound by the treaty (source of nternational law), then the state has an international duty to adhere. Absent that, liability attaches.
