Iran's space program really does have some issues.
@Maxar
picked up an image from February 27th showing the results of what is "very likely" a failed space launch attempt.....again 1/2
We didn't get anything as epic as this gem from 2019 but you can see the charring around the pad where the space launcher used to be. Since the Iranians didn't comment on the launch I think its safe to say what the results were
Fun observation for the day: South Korea moved their rocket launch barge back to its launch location between the 5th - 16th of August. The last time we saw this thing here was on March 30th when they test launched a solid fuel 'space launch vehicle' 6 days after a NK ICBM test
The United States of America was not involved in the catastrophic accident during final launch preparations for the Safir SLV Launch at Semnan Launch Site One in Iran. I wish Iran best wishes and good luck in determining what happened at Site One.
I caught a really interesting image signature this week that might indicate solid fuel motor testing at North Korea's test stand at Magun-po. These two images are from the 18th and 22nd of September and show a very specific vegetation change oppose the test stand (1/7)
So Planet just grabbed their first hi-res shot of the Pyongsan uranium mill and it reveals an interesting detail that is helping to better understand the layout of the complex - for more check out this short write up
So North Korea just published images of a solid fuel motor test at the Sohae Satellite Launch Complex. The motor is noticeably larger than the only other image of a solid test that they've publish - which occurred on the country's east coast at Magun-po. 1/x
In what has to be my favorite project since entering this field - I am working on reviewing what we know and can possibly discern about North Korea's uranium mill at Pyongsan - 1/9
We got an amazing shot of the North Korean military parade from
@umbraspace
taken at 13:16 UTC! You can see the formations of people in Kim Il Sung Square and the missiles and other weapon systems arrayed along the road to the North. 1/2
Doing this on my phone but it sorta looks like they have four larger doors up front with 6 smaller ones in the back - so maybe they're going to use this sub for two different SLBM systems (initial thoughts)
In this weeks episode of adventures at Sinpo,
@JosephHDempsey
and I figure out where the new North Korean SSB is being built - - featuring a huge hat tip to
@ISNJH
, two Kim Jong Uns, and outdated construction hall.
I was reviewing some missile related sites a while back and stumbled upon what might be another missile engine or motor test stand that we've somehow missed since its construction in 2014 - short write up here
...Secretary Pompeo looks forward to going to North Korea in the near future, most likely after our Trading relationship with China is resolved. In the meantime I would like to send my warmest regards and respect to Chairman Kim. I look forward to seeing him soon!
This new test stand burn signature at Shahrud (occurring between 8-16 march 2021) might explain all of the burn pit activity we've seen as of late

just got a hi-res image of the massive construction activity taking place at the Kusong tank factory (where North Korea builds tracked missile launchers) for more info check out:
The United States of America was not involved in the catastrophic accident during final launch preparations for the Safir SLV Launch at Semnan Launch Site One in Iran. I wish Iran best wishes and good luck in determining what happened at Site One.
I'm going to dinner (to do normal human things) but before I go this is my best guess so far for the Hyunmoo-too tracked edition. 40.029678, 125.227326
Some interesting activity spotted in connection to North Korea's Experimental Light Water Reactor (ELWR). Planet Labs imagery caught a lot of water discharge on the 12th from an additional discharge location, right next to where discharge was observed sporadically this year. 1/3
Launch location: 35.230957°, 54.033961° (about 7.6 km east of the big pad at IKSLC)
Reference video:
Working on processing a recent SkySat to proof the back view shots which I'll add via comment to this post.
Iran unveiled "Khoramshahr-4" ballistic missile, with a range of 2000 km and warhead weight of 1500 kg. Note the fins at the base of the missile - ad not on the RV as previously seen. The missile is liquid propelled, and is another variant of the North Korean HS-10.
North Korea appears to be expanding a key rocket launch facility it once pledged to dismantle, according to new satellite imagery shared exclusively with NPR.
In addition to the work observed at the Sohae launch pad - they have also built a large concrete pad 2.65km to the southeast of the primary launch site - its still a bit early to say its another launch pad but at the present I don't have a better alternative explanation. 1/2
Our friends at
@planetlabs
got a shot of a North Korean short-range ballistic missile just after launch at 10:54 am local time.
@DaveSchmerler
found it.
Huge congrats to
@var_ya_da_yok
for being the first to ID the general location of the new space launch center Iran is building near Chabahar. The image presented of the hangar (or check out building) is at the location they labeled as

• Batı Asya'nın en büyük uzay üssü olacak Çabahar Uzay merkezinin konumu ve son durumu
Uzun arayışlar sonucu inşa aşamasında olan Çabahar uzay üssünün yerini saptayabildim.

Yongbyon seems to be pretty active lately. All of this on top of signatures of activity at the U02 production building starting yesterday and visible today.
North Korea appears to be expanding the size of the uranium enrichment plant at Yongbyon by about 25 percent.
@DaveSchmerler
,
@Joshua_Pollack
and I think this may relate to growing weapons requirements for highly-enriched uranium.
An interesting observation about this North Korean missile silo reveal (of sorts) is the way they staged Kim's walk through the woods on his way to inspect the silo. They never showed the silo, but I want to walk through it for those that missed it. 1/7
Interested in some possible missile test forecasting for your afternoon read? I have some thoughts on a strange looking boat "recently" parked at Mayang-do -
BREAKING: Kim Jong Un's daughter joined him for the "Hwasong Artillery" launches as well, which appeared in photos released by state media Friday to involve the launch of at least 6 short range ballistic missiles at once.
More

soon.
The recent space launch by South Korea was done off of a Jack-up barge
@ArmsControlWonk
and I ID'd in 2017. Its been camped next to Tol-som since early this month (here is an image from the 6th at its launch location) -
