A #thread on how utterly useless @DubCityCouncil is at managing our city, in particular the public realm. No other major European city seems to get so much wrong, so often. I'm honestly not sure what Dubliners have done to deserve Councillors & a Council that are so incompetent.

Big misunderstanding around how green energy works so here's a thread as they say. Firstly: there is only ONE electricity grid in Ireland. It's operated by Eirgrid & owned by the Government. No matter who your supplier is, your electricity will come through the exact same wires

Today SSE Airtricity announced a 24% increase in the price of their '100% green' electricity. The cost of wind has not gone up. On Tuesday SSE announced earnings for the last year will be up to 17% higher than expected. This is pure war profiteering. We need price controls.

Not a fan personally. It just lends another air of unkemptness to the city. Which is the last thing Dublin needs in such a prime location. There are loads of other places in the city that this could have been done instead (all the parks for example).

Let's start with electrical boxes. No one loves them quite like our Council does! They're like mini Daleks that are multiplying like rabbits all over Dublin. In most cities an effort would be made to keep these underground & out of sight. But our council doesn't seem to care...

How in God’s name can a tender to provide a few sandwiches, chocolate and hot tea and coffee take so long? Genuine question. No wonder we haven’t built a single metre of new rail line in decades if this is how quick things move. Can they not just do it themselves?

Yes DCC! More street clutter! That’s exactly what the city wants and needs! And it goes so well with those eight beautiful electrical boxes. Not to mention the gorgeous paving… Does this new advertising panel mean you’ll have MORE money to erect MORE signage!? Can’t wait!

Like him or loathe him. You can’t not admire at times how direct and to the point Michael 0’Leary is. It’d be great if more politicians were like this.

"I would apologise to nobody for it. Our first job here is to look after our passengers, our second job is to look after our staff." Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary joined #TodayCB after the company bought the bulk of a new housing estate near Dublin Airport, to rent to staff.

A big lump of tar. The granite paving destroyed in the name of yet another fucking useless sign. Rubbish lying out on the street. And yet another Carrolls shop. Dublin city centre summed up perfectly in one pic.

The country clearly cannot cope with the numbers entering. Now we have the taxpayer-funded Irish Refugee Council helping an asylum seeker sue the State because he wasn’t given immediate accommodation.

Huge sympathy to the Centra security workers on Dame Street who are trying to deal with this lad who’s threatening to beat them up after calling them n***er c*nts. The abuse city centre workers have to put up with these days is despicable. There’s no excuse for it.

Although it’s still a bit too car centric, Dalkey is the standard EVERY town & suburb of Dublin should aspire to. Beautiful shopfronts, great mix of retail units, clean streets, heritage lamp posts, almost zero street clutter, and almost zero signage (just how do they manage 🙄)
