This year:
⚖️Final year of my Diploma
⚖️ Sitting my entrance Exams for the BL
⚖️ Have a legal chapter coming out
⚖️ Scholarship applications to do
⚖️ Equal Rights directorship for an EU body
🎭 Sitting on a cultural advisory board
Gonna be a very busy very sleepy year!
My entire yearly income on disability allowance is just over 10 and a half grand but please give superjuniorfragalisticexpialidocious ministers a 16 grand payrise they really need it
Remember to refer to our Eurovision entry with correct pronouns! So THEY are complicit in genocide, THEY are a scab, and THEY are a national embarrassment! 🇵🇸
Tell me you're using disabled people as a scapegoat to build anti homeless benches without TELLING me you're using disabled people as a scapegoat to build anti homeless benches
Kellie Harrington is no role model for anyone, particularly young people. Transphobic AND racist to boot. Much sounder people around to unite the nation 🤷🏻♀️🇮🇪
When I first got sick, we were living in Navan and Damien English was our TD. My ma went to him asking for help to get funding for something or other and he said "You know you aren't the only ones who need help". Did nothing to help. Good enough for him x
The most incredible aspect of being a part of Chapters, is that Chapters is part of the lives & stories of so many other people! Massive, massive congratulations to Alannah & her new husband who popped in yesterday after their wedding - we wish The Gargans a lifetime of love ❤️
This looks amazing and it looks at actually just being young and trying to navigate college as well as the issues around language, culture and relationships that I wouldn't have considered as a hearing person. Really excited to give it a look
Fyi the real traitors are the people who voted in candidates that are anti migrant, anti worker, anti LGBTQ, anti disabled and anti choice. That's the most anti Irish you could be. Your complicity won't save you 💚
SF have absolutely bottled this. They could have had a slam dunk but instead decided to pander to racists instead. Honestly feel bad for the ordinary members who thought they were joining a progressive party who just ended up in Fenian Fine Gael.
Disabled people have been locked out of the workforce for years because of a lack of accommodations such as work from home. Hoping that the double standard exposed by this pandemic (once non-disabled people need it, it can be done) will work in our favour for once.
Okay
@ivanabacik
why did you go so hell for leather supporting it? You cant distance yourself from the narrative that you enthusiastically supported. So disingenuous after disabled people and carers have told you that it was the wrong stance
The Government has been accused of running a 'lacklustre' referendum campaign by Labour leader Ivana Bacik, who added that the wording of the referendums 'could have been greatly improved' | Follow live updates:
By the way I specifically hope that people have the cop on to not elect anyone who would call disabled people Muppets to run to the shop, nevermind into political power.

Incredibly dangerous precedent being set by the DPP that the Gardaí are beyond the law. Thoughts are with everyone who will be affected by this decision, but especially the Nkencho family.
Anyway I'm on Primetime tomorrow night, I personally won't be watching (I can't watch the stuff I do without feeling unwell) but for anyone who wants to hear why a

Two more attacks on female candidates, one in Dublin and one in limerick. What is being done to protect women and other gender minorities in politics???
Disabled people and carers saw the writing on the wall for the divisive way the campaign was being wrong, but nobody would listen. Now people are distancing themselves and trying to rewrite history. There's no celebration today for anyone, it's not what we wanted
Proud of all the conversations I've had, the allies I've made, and the impact that the disabled community has had as a collective. Proud of us doing it the right way. No funding, no slogans, no PR team. Just honest, approachable and kind.

Disabled people are being misaligned with the far right and it needs to stop, especially coming from the Yes campaign. These are our lives on the line, not a soundbite or campaign slogan. We deserve better.

Seeing a lot of "bad day for women and disabled people" beloved disabled people ARE women, ARE mother's, DO have non marital families and DO live independent lives. The sooner we stop seeing disabled people outside of gender the better it'll be for all discussions.
This referendum was run on a campaign of finger wagging and condescension. The government as well as those who advocated their position threw this referendum away.
#Referendum2024
This is not a reprieve. The Irish far right got dangerously close to being given a foothold in the EU. Left cooperation in the upcoming election is more vital than ever given the results in the EU elections.
Talk to disabled people about the referendum, not people who have positioned themselves as representatives of disabled people. There are actual disabled people in public life!
It's important to realise no matter the outcome that there has been irrevocable damage done in advocacy groups because of this referendum. Speaking personally, there are a lot of groups that I will never be able to rely on again to look out for my interests.
The last few days have been really tough to handle emotionally. Seeing people turn their backs on disabled people, having my experiences as a disabled person invalidated and pushed aside. It's all a bit much tbh
Absolute fair play to Holly Cairns for speaking out on the reality of pregnancy loss and how common it is. She doesn't owe anyone her story but she's raising awareness and breaking stigma and I hope this pregnancy is incredibly uneventful and happy for her 🩷
Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns opened up to Miriam O'Callaghan about experiencing two miscarriages in the past year, as she shared her pregnancy news.

Remember kids; organise, organise, organise. If this is the government we've to put up with, grassroots organising will continue to be the major change making force. See what's going on in your community, who is willing to act on issues you care about
This kind of twee bullshit is the type of thing that sours people against going into politics. This is meant to be a respected activist, and "ally". Reducing disabled people's concerns to us being Muppets apparently which has ableist connotations in itself. Joke.
🚨 ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨
Thanks to the brave disabled women in my life taking the first jump, would like to officially state that I am no longer available for unpaid disability advocacy. If you're a big company or publication looking for my thoughts with no budget? Don't!
With government gutting communities, an ineffective justice minister and snake oil salesmen misleading people, it creates the perfect storm for the far right to prey on communities. It will only keep getting worse until someone takes accountability.
I think it's so wild that more people aren't up in arms over the wording man. Do you know entire court cases have been fought on the meaning of "shall"? The word "strive" in 42B is gonna give the gov a massive loophole re service provision and disabled rights.
@TonightVMTV
This is an absolute disgrace that there's nobody for the
#YesNo
side as part of this debate. Disabled people and carers continue to be misaligned by the media as advocating the position of extremists when we just want rights.
@keira_con
How dare you use my post as a platform to spout your racism. The only scam is the division that's being sown between vulnerable people when it should be directed exclusively at government policy which keeps disabled people in poverty; it has 0 to do with immigration.
Another org have rethought their participation in this campaign, and I admire the desire to do better. Call people in, not out. No matter how late they are to it, it's still progress and should be acknowledged

Just spent 2-3 hours going over every fiver my partner has ever sent me so he can get carers allowance. The reality is he does spent pretty much every waking second looking after me. That's a hard thing to come to terms with. How can the system be allowed to be this invasive?
I also challenged my own view of racism tonight because I thought it was a movement of men but actually it comes packaged in a well dressed well spoken woman form too. Which I would argue is even more dangerous.
So proud of the
#YesNo
gang and how we've conducted ourselves. If nothing else we can say that we had integrity and had EVERYONE'S best interest at heart.
@Berlinnaeus
So disappointed in you Bernie. To punch down on disabled people using this kind of language, is it any wonder people turn to the right if this level of belittling is considered being on the right side of something. Hope licking the boot was worth selling out disabled people.

Someone is dead because of the far right. Politicians and public figures lives are not more important than the ordinary people facing daily danger at the hands of these people. How much does this have to escalate before decisive action is taken? Are ordinary lives not enough?
Taoiseach Simon Harris has urged that warning signs around the abuse of politicians and public figures be taken seriously 'before the unthinkable happens'
From a disabled perspective, I didn't vote no because the constitution doesn't need to change. The women's place provision absolutely needs to go. But the proposed replacement was deeply flawed, and it's the more progressive result that the Care Referendum didn't pass.
It's a shame that there has once again been little discussion on disabled people. Grateful for the opportunity but would have liked more input on the anxieties that disabled people face.
#rtept
Friendly reminder that disabled people, carers and those fleeing conflict are not in competition with each other for resources. Nobody is giving to one and taking from the other; that narrative is divisive and does the work of the gov and FR for them.

Longer/stricter sentencing doesn't solve societal issues btw, carceral justice won't make misogyny, homophobia and deep rooted sexism disappear. We need more ambition from our criminal justice system.

My personal take on the means test of social welfare is that they shouldn't exist for anyone and anyone who advocates for increased scrutiny because of where someone is from is no leftist, and lacks basic humanity 💚
Can't believe someone on the Yes side has unashamedly attacked myself and my fellow community members. All we have done is advocate for equality, and we're tagged in dogpiling gotcha threads. Incredibly disappointing, and I'm here for those affected.
This month I'm on the cover of GCN with artist

So for the first time in about 8 years, I'm in a completely manual chair. No power assist, no motor, just wee old me. Never thought I'd ever get here again.. lot of Big Emotions™️
Was iffy about sharing, but recently celebrated six months sober. Not that I haven't had a wee tipple, it just doesn't control my nights out anymore and isn't a crutch for my social anxiety anymore. Big slay!
Just FYI. Most disabled women have no access to a refuge centre that is also accessible. There's only one in Dublin, most counties have none. Get your house in order before telling us about ours.

Received my most brutal piece of hatred so far, saying that I make Aktion T4 look desirable. Aktion T4 was the systemic murder of disabled people during the holocaust. Let it be known that if they're at far right protests, they want disabled people dead.
I'm not retweeting it but if I see anyone using altered ability instead of disability..... I will not be responsible nor accountable for by actions
