Apparently, Wales can't become independent because its people wouldn't have passports, and Wales wouldn't have any trade deals. Because no country that has gained independence in the last 100 years has managed to set up its own passport office and make new trade agreements.

If certain Welsh people got as angry about child poverty as they do about 20mph speed limits, we'd be independent already and able to tackle the real problems facing our nation. Those making the most noise about this have a hell of a lot of growing up to do.

Update: apparently, Wales can't be independent because the DVLA, Mint and civil service jobs will all move back to England (says Billy No-Pic One-Follower) Because an independent Wales won't need driving licenses, or coins, or a civil service, like every other country on Earth.

Tonight, England take on Malta. In 1919, after limiting the amount of food provided for the Maltese, the colonial government fired upon the public gathered to protest the cost of living crisis. 4 people died. In 1964, Malta gained its independence from the UK...

Ask anyone gloating about Wales' education scores being the lowest in the UK, if they know who ultimately decides how much money to Wales has to spend on education and child poverty eradication. Cos it sure isn't Wales.

Fact check. All figures annual. Welsh tax revenue is £25b. Welsh public services cost £24b. Any extra money is spent by the UK on behalf of Wales, so Wales doesn't get a say. £13b (or £17b) deficit figure has been debunked. Welsh water and energy is taken without pay back.

Wales has comfortably the 3rd best devolution deal behind Scotland and NI. Money is literally stolen from Wales for England-only projects that will not even benefit Wales indirectly. Resources such as water and energy are taken without payment, and Wales sees zero benefit.

The question was along the lines of: what services does Wales get from the UK that it doesn't pay for? Like I said, a good question. As taxes are still paid by Welsh people and businesses, and there is no real ring-fencing of funds, the simple answer is: none of them.

“What is emerging is a distinct identity: modern, multicultural, independent, outward-looking, connected to other small nations. All of which helps to explain why Netflix’s decision to buy the Welsh-language drama Dal Y Mellt is so significant.” 👏 @S4C

Water and energy are important commodities, and while they wouldn't make massive amounts, the fact is that if Wales were independent, they would make SOME money through trade. Wales receives NOTHING for free. But it does have things TAKEN from it without reimbursement. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

This is the absolute last I'm saying on this. There are only so many times and so many ways to say that I'm campaigning for Indy first and foremost, and that I'm glad @YesCymru is doing the same. I'll campaign for a republic after. But I need all my energy going towards indy.

2 groups of people want to go to an ice cream shop. 1 group doesn't mind what flavour you have as long as we all get ice cream. The other group only allows you to have mint choc chip. Either group is fine if you want mint choc chip, but only one is acceptable if you don't.

You give them all that money, as members of a union, for decades, and they leave you out of their infrastructure improvement plans. Shocking. Westminster would never do such a thing. 🙄

@Rob21113Rob @FionaMMorgan @ifanmj @OwsWills I hate to be the one to tell you this Rob, but you are a 100% Class A conspiracy theorist. If you don't want to be one, that's fine. But nearly all crackpot conspiracy theorists use variations of the term "concerned citizen" while denying they're conspiracy theorists. Get help.

Furthermore, if you erroneously believe Wales to be such a burden on the UK state, logically, you should want Welsh independence.

@BylinesCymru @ImFarrellPerks I wasn't born in Wales. You have to go back to my grandparents to find family born in Wales. Spoke Cymraeg as a kid though before I started at an English school. Bullied for decades for "being Welsh" by English peers. If I had to put up with that, I can count myself as Welsh.

FYFI: If you receive a state pension in Wales already, you have proven you are already eligible, and the UK/Westminster would be obliged to continue to pay your pension under their own law, even in the event of Welsh independence. Any comments otherwise is fear-mongering.

REVEALED TODAY: 171 billionaires in the UK have a combined wealth of £683.8 BILLION. Put another way, that is 27 times the tax revenue for Wales. An 11% wealth tax on those 171 individuals would raise the entire of Wales' annual GDP, and they would all still be billionaires.

I was asked a question by someone who was then abusive. His question was a good one, but I'm not going to respond directly to someone who doesn't actually care about the answer and just wants to attack personally.

👎 It is disappointing for people to deface a celebratory symbol. 👑 The monarchy is hugely popular here in Wales. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🇬🇧 The people of Wales are proudly Welsh and proudly British. We look forward to celebrating this historic occasion.

Rail networks in Wales are poor because of Westminster. Rail infrastructure is NOT devolved in Wales and so Westminster leaves us with a half a rail service that is England centric, London centric and Westminster centric.

Iesu Grist, my mentions. Who knew there were people who hated the idea of independence so much that they'd sacrifice their own credibility? Always happy to answer genuine questions or redirect to research about Welsh independence. "Genuine" is the key word there.

The house didn't have an English name before, so we haven't removed anything from the local community and culture, unless there's some kind of English monopoly on the number 25. No-one has told us to remove it or change it because it makes no difference at all to them. 2/3

This is Westminster Secretary of State for Education proudly gloating essentially about much better English state schools are funded by English, Scottish, Welsh and NI tax payers. If Wales could borrow to invest in schools like England can, we'd probably see better attainment.

These results put England higher in the rankings than Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Norway. And within the UK, under the @Conservatives , England have the best education standards, while Labour-run Wales remain at the bottom. 3/5
