Oh my this is a shocker. I am so sorry, my friend.Since we started working together years ago at CTV I’ve watched you work your butt off and earn the respect of colleagues,competitors and viewers.None of us last in these gigs forever but seems to me you deserve better than this.
Not to pile on when a province is in such a crisis, but given how badly
@jkenney
has handled the pandemic, ignored advice, ignored alarms bells from doctors and nurses and cost lives (24 deaths in last 24 hours) can he survive politically?
Here's a (completely non-partisan) simple question. If
@JustinTrudeau
is so confident in his leadership and the strength and smarts of his government, why not continue with the mandate Canadian voters gave him 17 months ago? Is this election call a sign of strength or weakness?
Please forgive a rare personal moment…this is my dad. He would have turned 100 today (or maybe 101, we’re not exactly sure. His birth certificate got lost on the way to Canada). Look at that smile.❤️ (Hug your dad, if he’s still around.)
So, I am confused. They keep demanding freedom, right? They look pretty free to me. How many other countries would let this go on for more than 2 weeks, right next to the seat of government?

Life is full of endings and beginnings. I slipped away from funeral coverage in 🇬🇧 to perform the wedding ceremony in Ontario for these beautiful souls,my step-daughter Erin and her wife Alex. ♥️ Blessed to have them in my life. (Back in London for the Queen’s funeral Monday.)
Hey there-a little update from me. I’ve been off over the summer after a family bereavement, an illness (all better now!), much needed rest plus dropping off my son for his first year of university. (Grateful he’s happy/healthy/launched but the nest feels very empty 😢)

Journalism seems more precarious today. I feel for all those good, committed journalists who lost their jobs. In an already shrinking industry, more cuts hurt all of us, diminish how Canadians get their information, and reduce the ability to pursue complex stories.
A little update about
@GlobalNational
We’re adjusting how we work. I am no longer in the studio, but on a balcony in North Van with a crew of 2, keeping our distance from each other and the public. Also, much of the rest of our team is working from home. (Thanks you guys!)
Every day on
@GlobalNational
we try our level best to clearly communicate public health messages about the pandemic so Canadians can make informed decisions. Today, the messaging from NACI about vaccines was so muddled I didn’t know what to tell our viewers.

It is not lost on me how fortunate I am. In May of 2020, the first human clinical trials of mRNA Covid vaccines were starting, built on decades of research. An mRNA vaccine had never been approved before. Now, one year later, I am one of millions to get it.
As a young reporter, I quietly put up with this kind of crap from some men in positions of power for years. Thought it had stopped by now. Good for you
@MariekeWalsh
for calling him out. Keep asking smart, tough questions.
I don't want to sound too dramatic...but why do these flames destroying 700 years of history feel like a representation of the times we are living it? Notre Dame Cathedral is collapsing, and it doesn't look like firefighters can do anything to stop it.

We’re all set for election night. Here’s the tone I hope we hear from whoever forms government. Collaborate more. Cooperate more. Work on humility instead of hubris. Find solutions that work for the whole country. No party or leader has a monopoly on good ideas.

I find it revealing when people mock where I came from, & say they’re going to “send me back to waitressing,” as if that is bad or shameful.
It’s as though they think being a member of Congress makes you intrinsically “better” than a waitress.
But our job is to serve, not rule.
I was deeply honored to accept the Walter Cronkite Award today, and ask my fellow journalists an important question:
The next time someone asks you to couch the truth with a lie pushed by a powerful person, what will you do?
Will you help that liar? Or will you fight?
They complain they don't get coverage, then complain and try to intimidate journalists who do try to cover them. 🤔As
@GlobalGraeme
points out, reasonable people in the crowd are allowing their message to be hijacked. It's all so pointless.
Here’s some of the crap we had to deal with this morning.
I will say, many were respectful and glad to see we were up early to cover it, but these dudes made it extremely difficult to accurately portray the message they were trying to send.
Between Poilievre federally and Smith provincially I can’t even pretend to call myself a conservative anymore. I’m politically homeless. I feel sad as conservativism was my connection to my grandfather, to my family, how I grew up. But I’m done. I want no part of this.

I don’t know what Mark’s job description was. To those of us who relied on him he was a wizard. He always answered our calls for help,always had our backs. I told him many times, including the night before he died, that I never wanted to go on the road without him. RIP my friend
Our show,

put it… a member of our work family.

They are loud and noisy and attempting to intimidate, but probably have not thought for a second about what it would be like to live in a country with no freedom of the press. You are right, Kylie, keep doing your work. 🙏
This narrative, that reporters like
@ConsumerSOS
who are covering the protests/listening to people, are the enemy of the people (where have we heard that before?) and should be executed is a tactic autocrats use to try to silence those who don't agree with them. That's freedom?
This fellow called for me to be tried and executed along with other journalists. But, on the more positive side, he said “you’re the SOS guy!” and added that our team had “a lot of guts” to cover the Toronto protest.
It’s what we do.

Crap is right. It's embarrassing this happens in Canada. Don't let the loud, angry minority intimidate you. The respectful, reasonable voices have a right to be heard.
Every political leader needs to condemn this and make it clear small-minded, insecure misogynists have no place in politics in Canada. Strong women do.

I am confused. What, exactly, has changed in our democratic fabric? We have democratically elected political leaders and free and fair elections. We have laws and by-laws. They just have to be enforced.

I agree no wise politician should get cornered into putting a date on when this will end...BUT, there are public health disease models used for policy planning, and those could/should be released. In fact, PM said last week they WILL be made public. Still waiting.
Do people really believe the PM can put a date on when this will end? Be real people. It is what it is. It is constantly evolving. No one really knows with certainty how this will all play out or how much time it will take (other than it will take a long time).

Anyone claiming Canada’s handling of protestors was ‘tyrannical’ needs to look to Russia to learn what tyranny really is. Protest in Russia is illegal. Political opposition leaders are poisoned, shot, or in jail.
At least 829 detained at antiwar protests in Russia today. The numbers don't seem that impressive, but consider that people are coming out for the 4th day now despite facing almost certain arrest & having no way to coordinate or even gather in one spot
Ok. I get it. There are people who believe only THEY are ‘true’ conservatives. And by asking a question I am obviously a Liberal shill. 🙄 It’s all so tiresome and infantile. (Thanks to those of you who gave reasoned, polite responses. I see you and appreciate you)
I feel for Chris Wallace. He tried to remain professional and assume Trump would rise to the occasion and play by the rules he agreed to. Should Wallace have shouted and berated them more? I don’t think so. There was already one bully in the room.
