I have COVID. It’s taken a while to wrap my head around it. I tested positive Christmas Day one day after my son tested + Christmas Eve. We think he picked it up at a sports camp because his buddy got it too. We accepted the risk of sending him and here we are. My symptoms…

A master class in signing off when it's not your choice. Beautifully and gracefully done, Lisa. Congratulations on a stellar career with CTV, and thank you for your commitment to solid Canadian journalism.

Before this gets out of hand, please check the stats on # of Americans killed by foreign terrorists on US soil in the last decade vs. those killed by angry white men with guns. I’ll wait.
It's astonishing that so many people (even in Canada) will angrily and sometimes violently defend their right NOT to wear a mask, but then won't acknowledge the right of others to deny them entry or service because they don't. If that's you, give your head a shake.

At some point in the future, I'm going to lose my little blue verified checkmark. I could not care less. You know my name, what I do, where I work and how I spend a lot of my free time. You decide if I'm notable and trustworthy or not.
Not gonna lie, I shed a tear of joy and relief. The return of decorum and decency, compassion and kindness, and a respect for truth and science in the Biden administration is going to be transformative in the United States and help suppress right wing extremism here too.
Day 6 personal COVID update: Getting better every day. Still bouts of fatigue and nasal congestion but appetite is back to normal. Will my 10yo son is Day 7 and no longer shows symptoms. Jane had her booster 7 days before he was infected and has not been sick at all. Amazing.
Thank you Kamil, Pat and the officers who helped get them out of there. Watching this, it’s very hard (but very important) to remember +90% of BCers know vaccines work and do what’s right to protect each other. This behavior isn’t patriotic, it’s psychotic.
The protesters surround our vehicle and start banging on it. One man spits at our window.
Police have to push crowd back so we can try and get out.
We finally do.

BREAKING: Orphaned orca calf frees herself from lagoon where she had been trapped since the death of her mother. High tide, calm water, and the encouragement and feeding of First Nations helped give her strength to make it to open water. Next challenge: reuniting with her pod.
"My only hope is that, on the way to court, they do not run into a bridge." - Premier David Eby responding to Chohan Freight Forwarding (trucking company) taking the province to court to have its suspension overturned after its drivers hit six (6!) overpasses. World class zinger.
I joined

A new Insights West poll shows 1 in 10 believe there’s a microchip “in the vaccine”. More than 1/3 believe COVID was lab-created and released by mistake. That’s despite researchers warning for more than a decade these viruses jump the species barrier. Ugh. Read a damn book.
Some thoughts on Snowpocalypse 2022... first of all, I grew up driving through 30 Calgary winters on all-seasons with no accidents. Humblebrag, I've got serious driving cred. BUT south coast snow just hits *different*. Being on the roads last night without at least.. (more)
This was a gut-punch this morning, but on a station-wide call we laughed and cried together sharing stories of Deb's intelligence, integrity, compassion, generosity and that gawdam giggle that could light up a room or captivate an audience. Deb was special and we all loved her.
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Deb Hope. She was one of the most iconic faces in B.C. for decades and will be deeply missed. We are thinking of her family and loved ones. RIP Deb.
What is there to even say about this? Who do we blame for so many people with no understanding of “rights and freedoms”, with such mistrust and disrespect for science and healthcare workers, and the journalists who covered it? It’s horrible and sad.
BREAKING: What courage... to not only get through this announcement without cracking, but delivering an understated yet very funny joke at the end of it. If anyone can do it, you can Alex.

The fact these guys believe the mandates have to end just because they say so, and RCMP should leave them alone is an insult to hard-working Canadians who ALSO want the mandates to end, but are living within the framework *democracy* has given us. Jesse's right. This is anarchy.

For those wondering, I am working from home this week, isolating with my family after we were informed of possible exposure to someone who tested positive for COVID 19. No symptoms, no sickness, totally precautionary. April 9th is our “all-clear” date. It’s nice to be missed!
I could not be more proud of my sis for her Award of Valour, and am grateful to all women and men in uniform who bring compassion and empathy to work every day knowing it could be their last. Thanks Chief.

Quite a few people on here were *skeptical* of Dr. Henry's decision to drop vaccine passport requirements and indoor mask mandates back in April, but with today's update: 325 patients in hospital, 28 in ICU, the resurgence they feared simply hasn't happened.

BC's *highest* rate of vaccination (in people under the age of 60) is in 18-24 year olds. Our young people know and trust that the science is sound and vaccines are our only way back to a version of normal life or they want to hit the 'clubs or both.

There’s room for criticism and certainly these numbers are concerning, but... and call me crazy... it ain’t our provincial health leadership having house parties and going to work sick.
When are the people of
#BC
going to wake up to the fact that Dr. Bonnie Henry & Adrian Dix do not have a clue what they are doing, what they are doing is nothing to slow the surge in cases 1293 cases of
#COVID19
today 293 higher than the worst 2nd wave day.
The new cases in BC (83) and deaths (3) and declaring a provincial health emergency are unsettling. But REMEMBER: Our food supply is safe and robust. Utilities (power, gas, water, sewage) are reliable. Our problems are not insurmountable if we cooperate.
@GlobalBC
Happy Canada Day everyone! Grateful for the country that gave my German immigrant father a better life & gives my own son a bright future. Let’s celebrate the values of democracy, kindness & peace & acknowledge the improvements we still need to make, without throwing punches.
When someone asks me on December 31st what my "story of the year" was... it may well be this. What those kids did is amazing, but so is how they articulated so honestly and openly what they were feeling when they did it.

We’re isolating & all Christmas plans went out the window. I won’t return to on-air work until January 5th. I share all this to accentuate the point that COVID is out there and it can knock you on your butt & deny you quality time with family just when you need it. Stay healthy.
Spare a thought for the Ottawa police officers standing up to some of the most vile, obscene verbal and physical abuse from this group. This is not a show of Canadian values. It’s the opposite of what I’m trying to teach my kid. There is a way to protest. This is just stupid.

Why should any journo or news outlet get taxpayer funding? If they can’t figure out how to transition from newspapers & TV news to digital platforms, is it our responsibility to bail out a failed business model, especially when its their responsibility is to hold govt to account?
Listening to the evidence from Williams Lake First Nation and stories from survivors of the atrocities perpetrated against children tore me up today. The strength of Chief Willie Sellers to lead his people, and all Canadians, through this pain is remarkable and inspiring.
