Guessing someone leaked because they don’t agree. I fully agree. If the US might fight/die for Taiwan it has every right to be a part of shaping Taipei’s defense portfolio. We can’t be passive observers. Foreign policy priorities first, the benefits of FMS second.

New: Letters show the Biden admin is rebuffing some of Taiwan’s requests for big-ticket weapons, instead urging Taipei to buy other equipment the U.S. believes will better deter and defend against China. @alexbward @nahaltoosi

Capitol Hill in board daylight yesterday. A block from my house. It’s very obvious that those who would turn to crime feel empowered in DC the last few years and that our politicians are handcuffed to take serious action. @MayorBowser @councilofdc @PoPville @alanhenney

This is an embarrassment. A manipulation of the situation in Ukraine, tax policy and who pays, the role of congress…. This is also playing with fire. If domestic political winds can flip this organization on the Russia threat, what’s next? Principles have given way to polling.

MAP OF THE DAY: Sometimes, a picture is worth a thousand words. Container ships heading toward Europe and/or North America, with almost all avoiding the Red Sea (red). More than two weeks after the launch of US-led 'Prosperity Guardian', the Houthis still rule in the Red Sea.

One can argue the level of frenzy over the balloon is too high, but not that we overreacted. If you think we overreacted to a foreign collection device in our airspace then where exactly do you draw the line?
