I think I’m about to commit to whatever lets me live my best life. Whether it’s a cert, degree, hard skills, soft skills, sleep, self care, diet, gym, etc. I want what all life can offer.
Tech is lowkey wild. You have to land a job to establish work experience while skilling up on the side in hopes of pivoting into something you actual want to do. Crazy.
It’s not uncommon to see a business analyst making 170k working for federal clients. I interviewed for an IT Systems Lead position and the max salary was 230k+. A lot of money in GovTech due to contracts.
I see why GovTech is heavily cert based now. Literally no one has anything. Just a whole bunch of experience. “You got your cert!? Ok cool, here’s a job!” Lol
Prioritize sleep. Cut out starches, sugar, and seed oils. Go to the gym 5 days a week. Stop eating after 8pm. Drink a gallon of water a day. Cook majority of all of my meals.
For individuals aged 30 & above who may have neglected their health and fitness in their 20s, what steps are you currently taking to maintain your well-being & physical fitness?
Bruh moving to Texas. Said he got 2 remote gigs and gonna be pulling in around 400k. Been in the intel community for 15 years. I knew I wasn’t tripping. This onsite shit ain’t it.
If I were to attend WGU’s masters in cybersecurity program, I would get CISM and CySA+ first. I would then only have to take 6 classes which increases my chances of finishing in 6 months. Then I would use tuition reimbursement from my job so it would be free. That’s just me tho
Well guys I just got another offer. Out of 7 interviews, I’ve been offered 3 times. I want to make a thread about everything I’ve learned during this process.
Speak of the devil. Network Systems Engineer position paying 275k + benefits. They want a full scope poly tho, but I hear the message plain and clear. I’m about to tighten up on my networking and Linux skills. I will be prepared going forward. 🤝🏾
A single guy with no kids in his 30s has to make fitness a priority. Your testosterone, muscle, and sperm quality is slowly declining. Can’t be out here damaging yourself by smoking, drinking, eating bad, and not getting proper sleep.
So far in my GRC role all I have been doing is training. The pay period ends today and I’m looking forward to my first full paycheck. Thank you kindly.
Y’all not gonna like this but a lot of y’all that are trying to pivot into tech need to take these help desk and system administrator roles. Trust me, it will make the journey a lot smoother.
Save a lil money. Invest a lil money. Take a few trips around the world. Get a job with a pension. Buy a house. Find a wife. Start a family. Be present. Be available. Live well. Be happy. 🫶🏾
Let me help y’all out. Most GovTech roles are in the DMV, Colorado, and California. Next would be Tampa, FL and Huntsville AL. Maybe a few places in Texas.
“Don’t chase the money, chase the skills. The money will come.” is what I was told early in my career. That had to been the best advice I was given because all money ain’t good money!
I was introduced to
#GovCloud
and I think that’s the lane I want to be in. My focus right now is AWS, CCSP, then Azure. I think that’s a winning recipe. 🤝🏾
They say certs are better than degrees in tech. But if everyone has security+, how do you separate yourself from the pack? Is the goal just to get a job or maximize your pay? Just asking a question.
See unlike most, I really don’t give a damn what I do in tech frfr. As long as I have time off to travel and maintain a healthy lifestyle, I’m good. I’m not chasing titles.
Another contractor told me not to worry about CISM. Said it’s a guy at her job making $230k with just CISSP. So maybe I should just learn RMF and get these cloud certs. 🤔 She said I should ask for more money too. 😂
The homie just passed AZ-900. Said it was easier than the AWS Cloud Practitioner. Told me to go that route if I decide to get a cloud certification. 👨🏾💻☁️
The guy on LinkedIn that’s doing the
#WGU
masters in cybersecurity 30 day challenge has 2 classes left. He started 9/1. Today is 9/12. Finish line approaching. 🏁
I think I’m starting to lean more towards benefits and flexibility rather than money. I want more time off to travel. I’m not bout to work myself to death when these jobs will replace you within a week’s time.
This summer I will be taking my talents to the DMV where I have accepted a Senior Information Systems Security Officer position. I would like to thank my support system. Excited for the opportunity and ready to get to work. 🤝🏾

So he asked me if my Sec+ and CISSP were valid and up to date and I said yes. He then asked me if I had a bachelor’s degree and I also replied yes. He said good, I needed all 3 to qualify for premium benefits.
This company offered:

A week off for Christmas and New Year’s.

It’s so many ways to build your legs other than barbell squats and deadlifts. I wish I wasn’t so brainwashed in my younger years. 🤦🏾♂️ Anyway, I heard it was hoochie daddy shorts season. 👀🩳
My theory is the older you get, the more educated you become on how to properly take care of yourself. You start to reverse some of the damage from your 20s. You then start to look younger due to lifestyle changes.
What’s crazy is I have yet been drug tested as a government contractor. Like my whole livelihood depends on me being drug free and I haven’t been drug tested once.
I find it interesting that the higher I went in salary/company prestige, the less hoops I had to jump through. the jobs paying nggas $300k+ a year do not drug test like lower paying ones. Idk exactly how this connects to classism & anti-blackness but i just know it does somehow.
For the record, I don’t love GovTech. I think I’ve said that before. But if I can make anywhere between 150k-200k for having certain credentials from ONE job then why not? The numbers are the numbers…
