It’s Graduation week in Costa Mesa🎉
Our Traffic Safety Bureau was on 17th & Raymond today making sure vehicles yielded as our explorers walked across the street in a marked crosswalk. Those that failed to yield got a citation. In total, 41 drivers were cited in 3hrs.

helicopter observed about 20 cars street racing in the area of Sunflower & Hyland. Our officers stopped this car leaving the area & arrested the driver, from LA County, for street racing & the car was impounded for 30 days. We don’t tolerate street racing...

While the City of Costa Mesa supports the public’s right to peaceably assemble and protest outside the curfew hours, it does not support vandalism, rioting, and looting.
🚨Police Activity: at about 6:50pm, officers responded to the 400 block of Bay Street regarding a shooting. Officers are at the scene and have closed the street to investigate what is now a homicide with one deceased and two in critical condition.

Police activity: we were in the area of Victoria Street and Placentia Avenue searching for a missing child. Helicopter notifications were made. Happy to report she was located safely.

Good evening. That photo was taken on the 55 fwy southbound near the Edinger exit, not near or in Costa Mesa. The fwy is CHP’s jurisdiction and they are aware of the photo.
We are aware Cary Smith was released yesterday from Coalinga State Hospital. We are in contact with our law enforcement partners in regards to Smith's housing. We know Smith no longer has any ties to Costa Mesa. We have been informed Smith is NOT currently in Costa Mesa. (1/1)
We listened to our community and focused on getting illegal fireworks off the streets of Costa Mesa...just over 4,500 lbs. worth about $25k and 14 arrests. Buy the Safe and Safe fireworks instead starting Sunday.
Last night at about 7:30, we responded to a catalytic converter theft at the 2300 block of Fairview. Officers spotted the vehicle & attempted a traffic stop which turned into a long pursuit involving many agencies - thank you to them all! It ended in San Diego with 3 arrested.

, arrested a Riverside resident. He was stopped in Costa Mesa & found to be transporting 5 kilos of powdered fentanyl with an estimated street value of $400,000.
We have received complaints about people not wearing a face covering in public. We ask that everyone do their part to protect themselves and those around them by wearing a face covering in public as required. We’re in this together 🙌
As city and county businesses moved into Phase 2 of reopening, the county issued new health orders that require the wearing of facial coverings in public.

Fifty-six suspects were arrested and 16 victims were recovered, including two juveniles under the age of 16, as part of an extensive multi-jurisdictional human trafficking enforcement operation conducted February 9 through February 12 in Orange County.
