No zoo enclosures actually look like that. But regardless sure let’s release all the zoo animals into the wild like you want. Aaaaaaaand they’re extinct.
What if we considered…hear me out…that bobcats and domestic housecats are…different? Then again I’m just a person with an actual background/degree in animals so what do I know?
I’m showing
#PrehistoricPlanet
to my seventh grade class and they’re calling the pterosaurs “chairs” and Mononykus “opossum” and now I can’t unsee both.
So because the guy with 0 background in ecology simply doesn’t care for a species he’s never heard of therefore it’s not worth preserving?…in favor of more roads? This is why science education is important so we don’t raise more people like him.
This. Don’t share the Dodo. They wrongfully attack responsible facilities that actually care for wildlife then turn around and celebrate literal wild animals taken as pets.
I use the Dodo’s videos in my Wildlife Rehab & Social Media presentation on examples of what NOT to share with the public. Why? Because it encourages others to partake in dangerous & illegal behavior. Dangerous to people (think Disease spread) but also dangerous to the squirrel
In every discussion about invasive species somebody will without fail insert this line…and they almost always reveal later they’re feeding feral cat colonies or something.
@Schticklord
Do people honestly forget the vast majority of godzillas were guys in suits and moved like humans? It’s also funny how a lot of people who are complaining about this also dislike the 1998 Godzilla. (Which actually was designed and moved like an animal)
Had to sit on this

Been sitting on this

PALEOART TIP for depicting predation/violence: When a puncture is made, blood can’t flow from vessels until the tooth/claw is removed. I get lots of “where’s the blood?!” comments about my Spinosaurus painting. That’s why.

Look I try my best to be humble. But if somebody point blank challenges how I know something I’m gonna tell them. That’s the cue to maybe back off and consider changing stance. But this is social media they just dig in and move the goal posts. 🫠
My friend texted me “is pterodactyl a dinosaur?” Last night. And followed up with “what the fuck is a dinosaur then?” Can’t be explained without very crude pictures on scrap paper when I should be asleep.
To all the “birders” and “animal lovers” who argued to let this human-raised nonnative animal to be allowed to stay as an invasive species in a dangerous to wildlife urban environment, this is what you get. Just listen to the actual experts next time.
Manhattan bird alert does not practice ethical birding and does not care about wildlife. They only care about clout and getting a photo. They were part of the reason Flaco died, participating and promoting disruption of recapture attempts by park and zoo staff. Dont be like them.
This is enrichment for the animal’s benefit. They’d do it every day even without the camera. AZA is not a hoax. We genuinely care about the animals. I worked with 3 species of armadillo for over 13 years. This little guy is NOT being mistreated. He’s totally loving this. 😉
In class I mentioned crocodilians are closer to birds than to other living reptiles and a kid just shrugged and said “well birds are dinosaurs and crocodiles are close to dinosaurs so that makes perfect sense”. 🐊 🦖 🦅
In a perfect world zoos wouldn’t need to exist. But now they’re the last chance for many endangered species. They’ve also saved many species from extinction and contribute huge amounts to conservation.

It’s ok to use colors in paleoart that simply look cool sometimes. Insisting
colors MUST ALWAYS be strictly based on pure logic ignores the fact that plenty of modern animal colors could never be predicted in a million years if we never saw them.
@Bonpland
They kill WAY more birds and reptiles than rodents. They are more often afraid of adult rats too. If they do kill rodents it’s not enough to justify them as remotely effective population control.
And for the record many zoos DO release animals into the wild. Captive breeding programs meant to bolster wild populations of endangered species, as well as rehabbed animals.
This is so irresponsible. Projecting human feelings on a zoo animal and encouraging it to be “free” in a nonnative habitat. This is detrimental to native wildlife regardless if the owl actually wants “freedom” or not. Shame on this account for claiming to care about nature.
We have often heard the hoots of a second Eurasian Eagle-Owl in Central Park tonight, recorded or live. Flaco was answering these hoots with his own. The zoo team continues in the area.

Northern Snakeheads guarding a mass of tiny babies. As cool as this sight is, they are unfortunately an invasive species here in the US and disrupt native ecosystems by eating smaller animals and competing with other large fish.

If your work is drawing these kinds of people. And these kinds of people are the only ones jumping to your defense when said work is questioned it’s important to seriously reflect on why that is. This is VERY disturbing. 🚩

I’ve gotten more than a few “where’s the blood?!” comments on this one even though if you watch real predation in action there’s many instances where this is the case especially on the initial bite.
Besides how AI is just not ethical towards artists it will also make science immensely more difficult to conduct properly and harm the environment/biodiversity.
Here's a list of myths we'll probably see videos of with AI
-Snakes chasing people
-Coyotes luring dogs
-Melanistic Puma
-Puma in Appalachia
-Thylacine sightings
-Bigfoot
-Wolves/Predators harassing livestock/people
- Agressive not defensive snakes
-Rare birds random location
So

The “profit” mostly goes towards care for the animals and funding actual wildlife conservation. (Very little goes to worker pockets. Trust me and my lavish 12$ per hour zookeeper salary.)

Hi wildlife professional here.
1) He died from a window crash after a stressful year of the wrong habitat and eating poisoned rats. That’s not much of a choice.
2) the Central Park zoo has done more for wildlife than you by a long shot.
Without many zoos loads of species would be long gone. Biggest threat to wildlife globally is habitat loss. (There’s literally nowhere wild for them to go) So let’s work together to preserve wild spaces and maybe one day those mean old zoos you hate so much won’t need to exist.
Implying that we should just let invasive species run their course because the idea of culling them makes you feel sad is hypocritical since they’re actively driving countless native species to extinction. You’re not the “nature lover” you’re trying to convince us you are.
Please don’t feed wildlife. Not only will they start associating humans with food, but what you’re feeding doesn’t meet its needs. Raptors naturally will eat whole prey bones and all. They’re missing out on valuable nutrients here.
@TetZoo
In my experience it’s usually when it’s about T.rex which shows how biased they are. I ended up getting blocked by one of them when I finally just took gloves off and called them out on it. I’m not sorry about it.
