Final scenes as I watch my last two Swifts prepare for life ahead. I think I prob need to do the same After almost 3 months of 16 hr day feeds, sleepless nights & anxiety dreams I think 'shell shock' describes my current state. 47 beautiful swifts saved. Worth every bloody second

Settling new rescue 'Ken' in. Minutes before he was anxiously defence flapping. I've found this 'preening' really helps build trust between us. Vital for feeding & for a happier calmer swift. They often fall asleep in my hand. What a rubbish job I have (Don't try this at home)

Today was this swifts last chance .. After 4 failed attempts at release, he had finally run out of time. He chose life. I can't explain what this meant to me. To a long life in the blue, my swift.

As I release precious, abandoned swift chick Bob, I can't help but wonder at the enormity of these few seconds, and the magnitude of his journey ahead. From a small dark box - to our atmosphere.. Scream forever into the blue my darling... The world is yours now

With only 1g left to gamble before it was deemed to light to fly, and a flat refusal to ever eat another cricket in it's lifetime, the relief (7th attempt) as this little Swift flew into the shaft of light to begin it's mammoth journey to DRC was huge Farewell lil Swift, lil pal.

Hard not to anthropomorphise with scenes like these. Singing 'nest' mates from few days old, and now, 30 odd days later, both fallen silent, and staring endlessly into their skies. They know what's to come. I know it will be good. Release at dusk tonight. Together 🤞🤞

Don't think I've seen outdoors for 16 days.. Tell a lie, I left their crickets out, in my sleep deprived state, & panic dashed to pet shop one day. Lost half a stone, and have 5 hrs sleep, if I'm lucky. But I get to wake up to this song every day. What a (knackering) privilege.

No matter how well behaved, & how little risk your dog actually poses, to a ground nesting bird, your dog is a WOLF. A predator it has evolved to fear. Adults often abandon nests, & chicks flee in terror, leaving them cold and vulnerable. 🙏 Keep your pooch on a short lead

Finally little Cedric has turned a corner I've been so worried about him, desperately pacing his box constantly It's taken 3 days to stabilise this poor Swiftlet. Weighing only 22g instead of 54 Ced was rescued by Sue 👏 Now he's eating well & sleeping in his cozy incubator ❤️

I'm sure I heard my cricket refusing friend scream in delight as she fledged. Good luck Jaz and enjoy an Orthoptera free aerial banquet for the rest of a long life.

Busy at swift towers this morning, with fabulous furious flapping of perfect wings coming from EVERY rehab box. Surround sound migration preparations. 🖤🤍 Soon it'll be "Oi bipede... Cricket time"! I'd best get a wriggle on myself...

Mini heatwave in the UK 🙏 Watch out for fallen swifts chicks near known nests or colonies, they often tumble trying to reach cooler air. Search drives paths and gardens. If poss, please keep your cat indoors for a few days Rescue swift immediately. Here's a guide and contacts 👇

Stunning Nuthatch nest in Sheffield, wish I'd watched them collecting the hundreds of bark chippings. The outer structure reminds me of dry stone walling, amazing. 3 chics alive and well. (inspected under licence). @shefbirdstudy
