I encountered a toad on my walk tonight. He was just hanging out in the street, which is incredibly dangerous, so I picked him up and brought him to my backyard. I have named him Winston and I can hear him singing out there.

Attempts to dress up student loan forgiveness as some kind of noble act that will really help us all out in the long run is an understandable impulse, but I wish we could just be honest: it’s buying votes from a core constituency. That’s democracy. It’s like farm subsidies.
