What having two special needs children taught me about the Church's "Liturgy Wars" (Something I briefly shared to someone recently via dm)
I have two autistic children, one of them unable to go to Mass regularly. I've learned that my children aren't really welcome at NO or TLM
This may be the Pope's finest moment, and I mean that. He is his own man here, and the papacy stripped and reduced to one thing: a priest being a priest to a desperate and scared flock.
A vision of the papacy all should support
The funny thing about making yourself the future. Eventually you become the past: old, out of touch, and forgotten. A ghost. Better to live in time and represent timelessness.
The despair of liberal priests in that article is what struck me the most: they know its over
From the Associated Press article on the conservative remaking of the US Catholicism 👇
“The progressive priests who dominated the U.S. church in the years after Vatican II are now in their 70s and 80s. Many are retired. Some are dead. Younger priests, surveys show, are far more
Strickland is a terminally online boomer, but the Pope firing a Bishop whose finances are in order, seminaries are fine, and is guilty of no canonical crime cheapens the office of Bishop to middle management
Being a terminally online boomer is not a crime

A genuine realignment where heavily hispanic and other working class areas that were traditional democratic strongholds kinda skipped the "competitive" seat and just became potential Republican strongholds in the blink of 2-3 years.
@DavidAFrench
No, it really is the same. You just tortured a post-facto justification because it wasn't Trump.
The person mattered more than the process, and nobody believes you when you try to say otherwise.

is a total piece of shit. 1) 2 kids in 6 years is a healthy clip and 2) she had a miscarriage you fucking goon.
Once a goon always a goon
Professor Grillo celebrating the emptying of the seminaries and the collapse of the Church as a necessary sacrifice for purity is a reminder that we aren't dealing with rational and sane individuals, but lunatics drunk on power facing the reality their time is up.
The biggest success of the TLMs at the Eucharistic Congress this weekend was not the large crowd (over 1000 in a Church meant to hold a few hundred), but that the 50,000 Catholics in attendance saw this and concluded that it was just a normal part of the Church and were glad.
🤔 Trump just threatened to have Republican voters stay home in 2022 and 2024 unless the party is able to "solve" (by which he seems to mean overturn) the result of the last presidential election, which he lost.

I'm pretty sure if you went up to someone in public, on tape and threatened to hunt them down at their house and murder them unless they did x, you would probably go to jail no matter who it is.
Just remember that, in the end of the Fransiscan pontificate, his ardent defenders, rather than proclaiming Christ to the world, are instead bitching about two young people getting married in the Novus Ordo with an ad orientem wedding, and an auxillary bishop helping them do it.
So my son was with me at the TLM this morning. He is non verbal, and doesn't "understand" in either English or Latin.
Yet when the priest is at a certain position relevant to the altar, or a certain note is sung, he stands before everyone and walks to me, expecting me to stand
The bishops knowing canon law better than the Pope and the DDW is a fun and amusing thing for us trads. Its obvious (even more so with this pope, for whom precision and rigor has never been a calling card) but TTC has been hamstrung at every turn by bishops following the law
I was unironically thankful for the crying baby at Mass. Parents are too afraid to bring them much, and the crying kept awake someone who worked an overnight shift and was fading during a homily
I think a big problem with Fauci is not that he got the science wrong on a pandemic.... a lot of people did. The problem for Fauci is that he kept up the facade that he got it right because he liked the press coverage and it fed his ego, even as it destroyed countless lives
Some may think the “6-feet” rule was a small thing. It was not. That rule is what kept restaurants, churches, and schools closed for so long. It’s what killed thousands of small businesses. It’s what broke society.
@FrMatthewLC
but also realize female ministers sends them back a lot further. And at this point it really is a parody of the respectable orders Leo XIII declared invalid in Apostolicae Curae
"But think how much it would cost to take down Rupnik's art in Churches"
Pretty sure you could give the lads at your local TLM a few hammers and a dumpster and they'd have his art down in hours. No charge.
@FrMatthewLC
I'll take things that are not true for 500 Alex.
Or at least inexact. The Church opposes the death penalty as it being unnecessary and potentially immoral based on modern conditions.
The opposition to abortion is based on God's law written into the hearts of men.
Never forget the time a prince of the Church randomly tweeted "nighty night baby, love you" and people seriously tried to say he meant to DM his sister.
And everyone just kinda said "hmm... that's interesting" and just viewed it normal behavior for a Cardinal.
The reason Cupich is restricting adoration is because Cupich doesn't really believe in the Eucharist, let's be real. He is the epitome of a Church as NGO, nothing supernatural about it.
And of course all this will do is make people hate him more
When Mary prays the Magnificat, it is not meant as a class warfare statement, and any of you who read it that way need to repent for insulting Our Lady.
A prayer of humility and submission is not one of class consciousness. My goodness.
@jdflynn
Like many in senior positions of the Vatican, they would rather have 0 priests than 1,000,000 not made in their image.
They just differ over what should be the dividing line
I think we can say one thing comfortably:
When we inevitably get a pope from Africa, the racism and paternalism coming from the left going to be off the charts.
Gonna hear some wild shit about the curia needing to show him how to be pope or someting.
Diocese of Toledo keeps the Latin Mass, dispenses priests from the parish requirement, and says nothing else will change unless Rome provides further clarification
Also says the situation the pope describes doesn't exist in Toledo
WYD storing the Eucharist in Tupperware tabernacles doesn't keep me outraged, but its a reminder of how pathetic the Church is today, and how the one way to describe the Church is frivolity. A Church that treats her holiest thing so casually is evangelizing nobody
Upon hearing news 330,000 children in France were abused from the 50s to now, the Church wants "closeness" with victims.
Closeness doesn't come without transparency and accountability.
Every bishop alive in France, retired or no, should announce why they personally did nothing
Those involved have stated on record they were mocking the Last Supper, no matter what the original intent was. Both could be true, but that doesn't change it was still a mockery of Christianity.
The official Olympics account explained that this tableau at the opening ceremony was a representation of a Dionysian feast of the gods. None of the people angrily tweeting it was a parody of the Last Supper bothered to notice.
Firm believer that bishops should reject encouragement to resign and make the Pope remove him. Even when, as is clear here, there's ample grounds for it.
Bishops are not viceroys of the pope, nor are they his vassals. They do not serve at his pleasure.
THREAD: Russian state-owned propaganda outlet RIA published the new programmatic article with the title "What Russia must do with Ukraine". The article reveals a detailed plan for a genocide, starting from full elimination of Ukrainian state. Details below.
Interesting admission by silence:
- The Pope never notified Burke of any disciplinary action being discussed
- The Pope never communicated it to Burke until it leaked
That's the very definition of petty and vindictive

Synod event Oct 1, is a mass Confession style gathering where people will confess sins “in name of all the baptized.”
Sins to confess include: “using doctrine as stones to be hurled...sins against synodality / lack of listening, communion, & participation of all”
I do not know if it's still open with the goal met, but she passed today.
I've had correspondence with Ryan for years, a good man. His family still needs your prayers and I'm sure help. So consider this in your Lenten duties
One thing that is overlooked: Pope Francis and Cardinal Fernandez explicitly warned Bishops in their declaration they were not to issue their own guidelines on the document.
Whatever happens, that prohibition was clearly ignored.
How is the Regina Caeli bad lol. Is anything that says Mary bad?
Mary, rejoice, for your son did exactly what he said he'd do?
That gets your blood boiling?
While the Tucho stuff drives clicks, Cardinal Sarah's statement on FS is way more consequential.
- Highest profile name to reject
- First high profile name to call on Bishops around the world to reject it. (As opposed to diocesean/national Bishops only for their territory
I want to broadly respect people's right not to be vaccinated. I mean that. But my kid now has to stay home from therapy for 14 days because a behavioral tech decided not to be vaccinated. 14 days of no therapy for a 5 year old autistic child isn't a 14 day vacation.
I chuckle at how Cupich tried to organize an insurrection against the sitting head of the USCCB, everybody declined, so he wrote a series of whiny tweets instead.
I don't know if Renaissance Cardinals were even that pathetic.
The answer: stop identifying your Catholicism with who is pope. The idea of a JPII Catholic laid the ground for a Pope Francis Catholic.
I think JPII aged better with time. But stop this gang

Not necessarily. but it does say that the FBI and DOJ have been misleading Congress on numerous occasions and keep moving the goalposts back, and keep shifting their defense. Why?
I think the fundamental reason the TLM has legs is the topic nobody wants to touch:
People accepted the reforms. They never embraced them. Those reforms never gave what they said. So people look elsewhere, and turns out the TLM can give those things really well.
These kinda things are probably what terrifies Francis so much about the TLM: the young love it, and do a far better job presenting their hope centered around it then liberal Catholicism does their ideas
If trads have one blindspot that makes them susceptible to grifters, it's an obsession with private revelation.
So many get mad when you point out John of the Cross counseled avoiding all private revelation for precisely the same reason: Satan manipulates the desire for more
Is it heretical? No.
Is it a good idea? Probably not.
Will it prevent a German schism? Impossible to say.
Will it increase confusion? Absolutely.
There. You didn't even need to donate to get the real answer.
St. Elizabeth of Hungary's altar was built by a priest and once used by a cardinal who's on the path to canonization. It's now dismantled and damaged, after the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest came to the Cleveland parish.
Unfortunately this is becoming such a thing now because Rome, in the person of Pope Francis and Arthur Roche, has decided to tell quite a few Catholics that the liturgy they grew up with, where they got to know Christ and found vocations isn't good enough.
Then prepare for most religious institutions providing hospital work and various charitable causes to evaporate, as they have to start being run like a business. And the state lacks the resources to fill that void.
Non-profit exemption isn't just for the benefits of nonprofits!
Voters don't vote foreign policy, but pretty clear this is the third foreign policy crisis of Bidens 3 years, where the US has been caught flat footed and a spectator to events.
High inflation and global chaos: it really is the Carter years
@Joeinblack
One of the strongest arguments for Catholicism is it has main character energy. It matters, even to its critics, in a way their critics do not matter to Catholicism.
About a thousand masks ripped off here.
But alas, trads didn't get a mistress pregnant and pressure her to abort to keep their plum comms job for a Cardinal.
Those people deserve pastoral care. A family who lost their church of decades deserves none
Being serious, this was not a problem before 2021. There was no third rail. A few Churches would've done a tlm, trads would go to the proceedings, write some huge checks, and everyone have fellowship.
Francis created this problem. He weaponized the Eucharist. Reap what you sow.

@breeadail
I wouldn't say nothing has changed, but its not officially blessing gay marriage.
But that is the end result, something they are certainly aware of.
Francis remarks come across as less a serious pastoral intervention with the good of the Church at heart, and more a panic and anger that he isn't being listened to.
It does confirm the desperation and defensive nature of the restrictions though
#PopeFrancis
has attacked the “incredible support for restorationism” ie the Traditional Mass, calling it a “nostalgic disease.”
He said this called for his TLM restrictions: “It was necessary to stop this indietrismo, which was not in the pastoral vision of my predecessors.”
HOMOSEXUALITY: Bishop Martin Mtumbuka delivers a powerful homily on homosexuality, representing my cherished country, Malawi. Watch the full clip on my YouTube channel.
The Pope's continued hatred of African prelates is one of those stories people just don't want to cover: it goes against so many narratives, especially those dear to Francis supporters that his pontificate would govern towards the peripheries.
I'm sure we can all agree that this group of papal nominees to the

is very representative of the worldwide Church and anyone who questions otherwise shall be cast into the outer darkness for daring to suggest otherwise. 😶
Reminder that Rome tried pitching defenses of the Rupnik affair to Francis' fans who still had a conscience. They all demurred.
They then turned to Tony Annett, who happily obliged.

The TLM is huge on those non verbal cues. Cues everyone built a spirituality around. If my son can follow those cues, maybe those going to the tlm aren't wholly ignorant of liturgical theology as Francis and the WPI crowd assume because they aren't the gold standard to us
There are not bad "Novus Ordo Catholics" and bad "Traditional Catholics." There are just bad Catholics. You may not think they exist, but you aren't looking. For the person sitting in the back not welcome at either Church, you can see certain things differently.
In his lectures, Cyril of Jerusalem welcomed the convert who converted for frivolous and even false reasons. He said when he was done they would have the right reason.
His Church grew. Our Church is an insular purity club. This is why.
Legit, what's the problem?
Is there something wrong with liking a beautiful liturgy focused on offering to the Father the sacrifice of His Son?
But yes, for the record Mr. Bayer, I do like that, and everyone else should as well.

Except Weavers behavior has been a pretty known open secret.
Certainly to the point where everyone with LP should go on record saying they've never heard anything about this until recently.
But we're not getting that. Care to be the first Tom, who removed your bio info?
So let's say Francis issues a decree severly curtailing the TLM, and a sizeable group of Bishops ignore it. And then Francis threatens penalties and... nothing happens?
Because that's more or less what just happened in India.

declaration: “Priests should always avoid common blessings for couples who live together in a non-marital partnership or a marriage that is not valid in the Church, or who live in a same-sex partnership.”:
With the news that Rupnik has been incardinated, its now pretty clear that Pope Francis personally believes Rupnik to be innocent, or does not care about his guilt.
Pray for the Holy Father. When an 84 year old man spends more time in the hospital than was anticipated, that's never good. And we always just seem to assume who is here now will remain so, despite the fact he's an 84 year old with poor lungs just coming out of surgery
