I think this is my favourite Death Note post of all time. Because even if L caught Light, how the fuck is he meant to put him in jail based on "This guy kills people by writing their names in a book"? 😭
Convinced that Game Changer isn't a real show but rather Sam is being paid by the government to test different methods of psychological warfare on the Dropout cast.
Schism is really interesting because it paints Logan as a trying to have a point while also painting him as someone who's an irresponsible teacher. He seems to be against the idea of the young mutants being put into combat situations which is fair position to hold BUT he is also-
@JackOBriennerd
Oh my god yes. The writers do really well at making him a sympathetic antagonist. It balances things out really nicely. Which is infinitely better than the comic where it's like "Whose side are you on?" but he helped build Guantanamo Bay for superpowered people 😭
@LestradeCM
It would have absolutely worked. The issue wasn't that L didn't know it was Light. He knew very early on, it's "how the fuck to do I explain this to the legal system in a way that doesn't make me sound crazier than I already am"
Imagine how hard it would have hit if he was resurrected at the beginning of Krakoa or better yet during Fall of X when mutantkind needs their greatest blade to return
It's terrifying how much MCU X-Men kinda hinges on this. Not just their individual characterisations but their relationship as leaders. The dynamics they bring to the X-Men. Put the short hairy man to sidelines, he's not the leader of the X-Men, never was and never has been 😂
Look I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. This is peak. This is the kind of comic that should always be in stock, never out print. This is the kind of comic that should be talked about in the same conversation as comics like Batman Year One. I can't tell you how much I love this comic
No but the Inquisition tarot cards are so crazy. Like to me, this is the definitive iconography of Dragon Age. When I think of Dragon Age, this is how I think about it. I think about this the same way I think about Yoshitaka Amano's art in Final Fantasy
@headfallsoff
The wide spread use of asbestos by 60s superheroes is maybe one of the funniest products of that time. Like Spider-Man's web fluid had asbestos in it, he was a walking class action😭
painted as unwilling to teach them how to use their powers in combat situations (perhaps in some immature protest against Cyclops). Logan is placed in charge of combat classes but shirks his responsibility and Idie ends up killing people at the museum-
in self-defence. He's angry at Cyclops but Cyclops did everything he could. Why? Because he assigned her a teacher who would teach her how to use her powers in combat situations, this would very much include non-lethal solutions but little old Logan has been shirking his-
duties, and Cyclops tells Idie in a life or death situation to do what she's gotta do. Cyclops knows that this one is on him, he's aware that he's responsible. It's important to remember that some of these young mutants were at Westchester during it most tragic and bloody period-
THE AESTHETIC, the look, the feel. From Tom Muller's designs that made the books look like dynamite, to some of the best team costumes in X-Men history, to the Hellfire Gala outifts. The X-Men have never looked this good collectively
@GunnerDobbins
Bendis' Spider-Man in New Avengers is so incredible. He's very much the source of comic relief but he's also the voice of reason. I love him so much. I'll never forget when he called out Hawkeye. That was a hall of fame Spider-Man moment
They are gonna be put into combat situations whether they like it or not and especially at that period the stakes are high. They should have the tools to protect themselves during this period. Cyclops is obviously biased because he was fighting bad guys as a teenager but in-
Anyway, tl:dr I like Logan as a character in general but this book makes him look like an utter piece of shit, it makes him look like he cares more about being right than about the wellbeing of young mutants and that just sucks
this situation it doesn't make him wrong. Cyclops respects their decision to want to fight for their home. He knows how capable these young mutants can be. Cyclops isn't stupid, he knows that these kids should have better life, he was teacher at the school as well
@RedLReviews
The Illuminati is one of those things that reveals just how much Hickman takes after Bendis. I think there's a lot of ideas in New Avengers and subsequently Secret Warriors that Hickman would use or be inspired by during his tenure at Marvel
I know OP corrected in saying Gerry Conway was 19 when he became ASM writer and 21 when he wrote the Death of Gwen Stacy but I really think the big two need to make a return to letting people in their 20s write major comic book characters
Schism continuously paints Logan as having a fair position to hold, but also being a hypocrite, an irresponsible teacher and too stubborn to think about what kids want. By all accounts he's the antagonist of this story, but he's not is he?
-before Decimation happened and everything went to shit. But he isn't naive either there's a time and a place and unfortunately this isn't it. But Logan would rather blow up the island to take out the sentinel than admit he was wrong
@shuofsin
There's probably a perfect circle on a venn diagram between people who completely misinterpret Starship Troopers, people who think Homelander is based and people who think the sentinels in X-Men are good because "mutants are walking bombs"
Because this book is the precursor to trying paint Cyclops as the bad guy, being in the wrong. I think Schism isn't particularly good not necessarily because of what it's trying to do but because of how it achieves, because Aaron makes no effort to have Logan's
new position be consistent with his history. It feel like oil in water, there's no flow. It just feels like he wakes up thinking this one day. It definitely feels like one of those editorial mandated stories so they just do a 180 on Logan to launch his new book
How I knew Al Ewing is about X-Men is when he referenced Magneto and Sunspot's former relationship of headmaster and student. Something I don't think I've seen happen at all. I'm not kidding when I say, Magneto as headmaster is lost in a black hole when it comes to X-writers
@somerandomwill1
I think X-Men do get worse shit from the public than the Avengers in general BUT Marvel's civilians are fickle so while I think the normal status public opinion tends towards good, suicide bombers nearly killed the Vision because they hated the idea of him being with Wanda
@ComicGirlAshley
I think Ultron is maybe the only thing that is justifiable evidence but that's more evidence against Tony and Bruce being dangerous scientists than Superheroes being dangerous 🤔
I like this. Not enough Marvel heroes are fucking aliens. We need to put Matt Murdock in space and see what chaos he causes. Daredevil and Deathbird would be funny as hell
Pacing I think. Big 2 comics are paced very differently now. Exploring superhero identities requires civilian supporting casts of substance which requires you to explore their civilian lives and that'll slow down the pace of the comic because it necessitates that
@linesinmotion
Being a mangaka must really wreck havoc on your self worth because there are so many factors beyond your ability to create that might result in low numbers but it's likely that you'll blame yourself first before anything else which is so harsh
@bornposting
@D4hz4hn
It's such deceptively useful way to change the context of your characters but also invite subtle changes to them to help contemporise them
@GunnerDobbins
I was genuinely cheering him on in this run, I didn't care much about Deadpool before this run but I did afterwards. This run has a lot of heart in it
I just read X-Men Red
#1
, Al Ewing you gotta stop. you smoke too tough. your swag too different. your hair too luscious. your book too gas. they'll kill you
Krakoa to me is about mutants thriving. The mutant metaphor has often been used to tell stories of oppression but I don't believe it can or should only be used to tell stories of oppression because I don't believe that minorities should solely be defined by stories of oppression
@RedLReviews
As good a movie it is, it's genuinely hilarious how much better a movie it would be if not just Shaw was Sinister but if the main cast was the O5. Imagine a Cyclops whose mentor wasn't just Xavier but Magneto as well
Chris Bachalo took one look at Magik and was like, "You know what she needs? A black outfit and a big fucking sword" and it might be one of the greatest artist decisions with an X-Men character
@RedLReviews
The villain secret identity being the nicest guy at the office who brings donuts on random days, is a big team player and puts in the shift when the workload is getting high would rock so much😭
@bornposting
I think it's a thing because of Bendis. Prior to that, at least during the Decimation era, when an X-Men writer needed a hero who represented the establishment I think they used Iron Man and on one occasion Carol Danvers because of the registration act
See this one of things that I think is important that the series does. We don't see the face of Ozai until book 3. Until that point we see his shadow and his affect on the characters and world which I think does a great job of building to him as the final big bad
@GunnerDobbins
This is some real galaxy brain shit. Imagine being in the room when the writer dropped that one on the table. Is he just blind or does still have Daredevil powers?
@LeCinephiles
I swear to God, Cinesthetic might be the funniest account on film twitter. It's not even that they're so much hornier than anyone else on film twitter, it's a fairly horny space. It's just the way they post. It feels like there's no voice behind the posts, only horny 😭
@shuofsin
Moussiah Complex
House of Mouse/Powers of Mouse
Age of Mickey
The Night That Minnie Mouse Died
Mickey: Future Imperfect
The Dark Mickey Saga
Gods and Mice
Crisis on Infinite Steamboats
The Many Lives of Minnie X
I think I've read enough Nightwing. I guess if I could describe it, it's got incredible presentation. It's a visually amazing book, that I can't stop feeling impressed by but there's no substance to the writing. It's like putting a go kart engine in a Ferrari
Why does Brevoort talk like this? He speaks about the tragedies happening to mutants at the end of Krakoa and post-Krakoa as if it is completely their own fault. Who keeps letting him promote these books like this? Akira Yoshida come fetch your boy 😭
You know I used feel a lot of sympathy for Mystique before I did my long X-Men read through, but upon reading this again... SHE CAN EAT SHIT FOR ALL I CARE
Tom Taylor's Nightwing is the comic book equivalent of cotton candy. It's tasty but it's just air and sugar. No nutritional value in there, no substance
I'M GLAD SOMEONE IS MENTIONING THIS BECAUSE THIS IS ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT DURING THE FIRST EPISODE. Episode 1 is Aang, very boring title. Episode 1 of the original series is The Boy in the Iceberg, great title elicits questions and mystery. "Why is there a boy in the Iceberg?"
This is a smaller thing to critique but also I can’t get over it, what are these episode titles man what happened to the art of titling why are they all so boring and literal
Are there any superheroes who were in a relationship once but had a really shitty break up so now they both hate each other but still have to awkwardly team up sometimes because they're superheroes? Because if not I think it would be kinda hilarious
Something I find fascinating about Magneto is that while he is a man fueled by anger he's not as stubborn a character as he seems. He's susceptible to change, it's what makes him and Xavier such an interesting pair, Xavier is ironically very stubborn and resistant to change-
@JojoTalksComics
Once he finishes that Ultimate Universe event he's going to lock himself in his room until he finishes Black Monday Murders and the Decorum sequel and I doubt we will see him at Marvel again after that for while
@GunnerDobbins
You're gonna make me want to read Spider-Gwen and I already have such a long backlog 😭. Also Spider-Gwen movie when? This sound so much more interesting than the Spider-verse movies if I'm to be completely honest
Scott & Emma's affair in New X-Men is actually one of the great dramas of comics. I was thinking about it again and there's honestly so many layers to it. I don't know if you could get away with that today, but the list of writers who could would be pretty small
Charles Xavier has the ability to see the potential good in everyone with steel like conviction. It's a big reason why Magneto is who he is now, but taken too far it can compromise his mission statement and put the very people he tries to protect in jeopardy
@GL2814_3
Knowing how early Magneto knew Polaris was his daughter but didn't say anything nor raise her makes it so much funnier how much she's the favourite at this point
I think maybe one of the weakest aspects of LoK is that it doesn't explore the fire nation much. What does it look after the hundred year war is a question it should absolutely answer as much as it can tbh. Izumi and Iroh are both characters we should have seen more of
@Exalted_Speed
The thing about Sinister's inclusion in Krakoa is that it's really just race between how fast the Quiet Council can replicate his role in resurrection so that they can kill him and how fast he will be able to betray the council and this is pretty evident from day one
This is hilarious but also this brings up something I've been thinking about for a while. What's the female superhero equivalent of a male hero being given a beard. Like what gives off that same vibe?🤔
You know if this is the kind of discourse that came from an X-Men cartoon, God help us all when the MCU X-Men trailer drops. We are gonna be fighting for our lives on this site
