@crocutamatata Don’t forget the Panamanian Golden Toad who was and still is being bred in captivity when Chytrid fungus almost wiped them out completely. They still have a lot of recovery work to be done, but they’d be extinct without zoo breeding programs.

@Kolasaurus I think Chica’s main issue is there is so much going on with her design that it feels like a bunch of ideas cluttered into a single character. I think if the design was simplified a bit and some aspects were removed or tweaked then it would look better.

@boydvenable @fasc1nate Higher CO2 levels do not make animals larger, you’re likely thinking about oxygen which in higher concentrations can make invertebrates larger. Most vertebrates aside from reptiles actually tend to be larger in colder climates compared to those in warmer ones such as penguins.

@SparrowLucero I think it’s an ontogenetic thing? Baby animals tend to have much shorter faces and snouts than their adult counterparts. I am unsure if any baby dromaeosaur fossils have been found so I am unsure if the design of these guys is based on known fossil material.

@BrandonDavisBD They should NOT be getting rid of Dinoland. Dinosaur is arguably one of the very few thriller rides in the park and it is important to acknowledge lost species. Moana has little to nothing to do with animals. With Avatar it made sense since it explored imaginary animals.

@CringeZoology Honestly this post would be better if it was talking about Rattlesnakes or even Wolves as both are often culled for no reason. I love reptiles, but unfortunately invasive species are a major problem and culling Iguanas is unfortunately one of the only ways to stop their spread.

@HodariNundu Honestly, the fact a 40ft long reptile could easily sneak up on you in the swampy lands of Hell Creek is a terrifying concept. I also heard that it is likely Tyrannosaurus would have used low frequency sound to communicate, meaning you’d feel it before seeing it.

@Mossworm1 Reviving extinct species is honestly a waste at this point as many of them require a surrogate that is endangered. The Woolly Rhino for example is most closely related to the Sumatran Rhino which is on the brink of extinction.

@BrandonDavisBD Zootopia gets a sort of pass because the main characters are animals, however I believe this is not the right direction. Animal Kingdom’s main goal (in my opinion) should be to teach kids about all life and removing the representation of extinct species in the park is not good.

@YOGB_Mate @sanstitre2000 Technically Quaggas are a subspecies of the Plains Zebra that is extinct. Currently there are projects to selectively breed Plains Zebras with the coat pattern of the Quagga. However they likely will never be the same as the originals.

@AquaticFlapper Also a lot of places around the world now lack large predatory animals because of our fears of them. Britain has no large predators along with many of the NorthEastern US states because of this. My own state used to have wolves, lynx and cougars, now they’re extirpated.

@antdude92 Fossil fighters is a lot more unique than folks may think. Sure you are collecting creatures but you actively have to go through a process to get them and the better you do the more you are rewarded. It’s a very fun game with great touch screen controls and a weird but fun story

@CringeZoology Possibly a hot take: Cats don’t belong in Australia period. Unless your cat is an indoor exclusive pet, it should not be allowed in Australia or any island country period. Hell, even letting them outside on the mainland is bad. Just keep your pets safe and happy inside!
