This was why I took some personal time last week. Thanks to all who have reached out to offer their support during this time. My dad was a devoted husband, a special father and grandfather and a leader of the communities for which he served in Tempe, Lakewood CO and Kirkland WA.
Today we mourn the loss of retired Chief Ron Burns who passed away after a battle with cancer. Chief Burns came up the ranks of TPD serving as chief 1995-2000. He was a good and honorable man who will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family.
At some point we'll kick back over a beverage and toast to an unexpected season, a wildly entertaining October, a sweep of the Dodgers, a comeback for the ages against the Phillies and a future so bright we need tinted glass.
But not today.
Happy for all the suns fans, the ones who have suffered through the last 10 years, the ones who died a little bit when Horry hip checked Nash and when Paxson hit the shot in 93. Not just about me and my story. Lots of stories out there. Enjoy, everybody enjoy.
Blame the refs all you want but the Suns have been sloppy with the ball, disjointed offensively, giving up too many open looks defensively. Bench play has been poor. And I can't recall back to back games where Chris Paul has offered so little.
My mom tells stories of the two of us jumping on the coffee table in 76 during the finals. My father, who just passed away in January was giving me play by play through my dorm room phone when the Suns beat the Lakers for the first time in 1990. I go way way back with this team.
Monty’s hiring was one of the most important events of recent Suns history.
You can’t get obliterated in elimination games at home in back to back years.
Both of these can be true simultaneously. The off-season is gonna be wild.
I owe a debt of gratitude to
@Gambo987
for coming in on what was supposed to be a week off. We have a family matter that requires our attention and Gambo offered to work this week. Appreciate him and the
@BurnsAndGambo
team for their support.
And one last time, congratulations on the incredible career of the Gub'nah Greg Schulte. Would have been sweeter for him to go out with a World Series winner but that's still a hell of a way to cap a 26 year career as the voice of the D-backs.
Kelly Oubre was such a benefit during his time with Suns. Brought energy, enthusiasm, swag and most importantly pride in being a Sun. Rubio was the point guard the organization so desperately needed. They will be missed. That said...this is a big time trade by the Suns

go absolutely crazy witnessing Kyler Murray's unbelievable last-second Hail Mary touchdown throw to DeAndre Hopkins to topple the Bills, 32-30.
Deandre Ayton is the 2nd player in postseason history to shoot 90% (or better) in a 20-point, 15-rebound game against the Lakers, joining Bill Russell, who did it in Game 2 of the 1965 NBA Finals h/t
@EliasSports
Seriously at this point a potential Scott Foster assignment for game 7 is the absolute least of my concerns as it relates to Chris Paul and the Phoenix Suns.
Ketel Marte just set an MLB record for postseason hitting streak at 18 games. And he did so on a bases-loaded shot up the middle, scoring two. Corbin Carroll followed with an RBI single. The Diamondbacks are up, 7-1, and a "Let's go, D-backs" chant is ringing through Globe Life.
In the mid 70’s Al was my gateway into this love of Suns basketball. I can recall arranging the rabbit ears of an old TV to watch the game and hear his unmistakable call. As a young broadcaster in the early 90s I honestly can’t recall my first encounter with him; I was so
On a quick personal note...We had big plans to celebrate in 2020 but it will have to wait. And we're cool with that. Happy 25th anniversary to my wife
@Decision_Maker
and cheers to 25 more.
I keep thinking of all the big trades - the ones where the AZ team gets the big name guy - and never once does regret enter the equation. Gonna miss the twins and their energy (and MIkal's defense) but there is no regret here. Zero.
All that said, all three were a part of the great renaissance of Suns basketball. Even Jae (despite how it ended). Mikal will go down as one of my all time favorite Suns.
Nothing wrong with the bright lights of the Finals for the Suns. Booker was spectacular early, Paul was money late, Ayton worked HARD tonight and the return of Giannis didn't scare anybody. Long ways to go of course but Suns were sharp tonight.
Western conf champs and on the floor in the closing moments of the gold medal game in the Olympics. Heck of a summer for D-Book. Now, take a nice break. You’ve earned it.
Immensely satisfying day for the Cards. Without your starting QB, starting WR (x2) and starting RB, you maul a division rival on the road, 400 plus yards and 31 points on offense, 5 sacks, 3 turnovers forced, Cowboys lose, Packers losing...couldn't have asked for anything more.

Book needed help and he got it. Paul ran the show for a while their in the 4th. The defense stepped up on LeBron late (a steal, block). Cam Johnson, Bridges, and Jae humongo 3s. What a night for Suns basketball.
Said it before I'll say it again; this team this year was really really hard to love. Now I'm not sure what is more upsetting: Looking back at failed expectations or looking forward to a roster that looks stuck with a lack of options.
This crowd so desperately wants something - anything - to explode about. You can feel it in here. I bet you feel the same way wherever you're watching.
Kyler and Hop missed all of November and the Cards went 2-1 and have the best record in the NFL. Both will have gone 37 days without playing a game. Impressive.
What Paul has done for Ayton and what Ayton has done for himself is the second best story of 2021. The first of course, is that the Suns are one win away from the NBA Finals.
There's something about this matchup that I just hate. Hate. The Clippers really affect the Suns, disrupt their everything. They did it during the regular season. Did it during the Suns three wins this series. They did it tonight. Was so hoping to be done with them.
Appreciate the support everybody. I am doing the show from my home,
@Gambo987
is at his house. I was exposed to someone who tested positive and while I have no symptoms we are taking it safe. COVID test tomorrow.
