As we mourn the tragic death of Cst. Shaelyn Yang, we are grateful for the outpouring of support from our community, including the first responders who paid tribute to her last night.

Burnaby RCMP is on scene at Metrotown, assisting with evacuating the mall and conducting a grid search.
There are unconfirmed reports of shots being fired. The mall is being searched. There are no known injuries.

Last Tuesday Yang tragically lost her life in the line of duty and British Columbia lost a true hero.

While conducting speed enforcement today in
#Burnaby
we stopped this 🚗⬇️ going 97 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone. The driver was then suspected of being
#Impaired
and subsequently failed 2 breath tests. 90 day IRP and excessive speed ticket issued and the 🚗 was impounded for 30 days
We appreciate everyone's co-operation as our officers work to make sure everyone at Metrotown is safe.
So far, there is no evidence of an active threat or any injuries.
We are still investigating and we are still asking people to avoid the Metrotown area.

We conducted a seatbelt check this afternoon on Burnaby Mountain and even with advance warning we caught 17 drivers/passengers not wearing a seatbelt. We also caught 3 drivers driving without a drivers licence including one driving on a fake drivers licence

The threat that caused the evacuation today is believed to be unfounded. The mall will remain closed to the public tonight.

Burnaby RCMP joined our policing partners today to pay tribute to Constable Shelby Patton, who was tragically killed while on-duty in Saskatchewan.
Constable Patton's service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Today marks the one year anniversary of the line of duty death of Cst. Shaelyn Yang.
Her death continues to affect all who knew and loved her.

officers have responded to more than 25 sudden death calls.
The Metrotown area has been cleared by police and deemed safe after unfounded reports of shots fired today. There were no injuries.
Burnaby RCMP is investigating the source of the call, and whether the incident was related to swatting.

Our hearts were heavy today as Cst. Ryan and Cst. Jordan were remembered in Edmonton.
Burnaby RCMP Staff Sgt. Major David Douangchanh and our detachment Chaplain, retired EPS officer Patrick Tracy, were able to attend the service and pay respects on behalf of the Burnaby RCMP.
Our bike team was doing proactive patrols near Metrotown when they were approached by a man who said his cellphone had just been stolen.
The suspect was on rollerblades & wearing high vis clothing.
After a short pursuit, a suspect was arrested & the phone was returned.
We were out conducting speed enforcement in South

this morning. In a span of 2.5 hrs we caught 9 drivers speeding excessively with the fastest driver going 121 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone and 20 drivers going between 30 & 40 km/hr over the speed limit

The video currently on Twitter claiming that our officers were checking customers for same household compliance is misleading and incorrect. The officers were responding to a criminal complaint received and were investigating that complaint when the video was recorded.
