Sometimes when I discharge patients they want to say thank you.
I usually joke that the best thank you would be to get a postcard from them 10 years later from a beach
Sometimes the cards come - and it’s wonderful
Patients are getting v. relaxed about telephone clinics.
This morning I have spoken to one person who was riding a horse and another *on* a rollercoaster.
I remain at my desk.
After 2 weeks of telephone clinics I have never been more keen to see people face to face.
“Hi, this is LA1 we have Mr X here in 3rd week of radiotherapy and he...”
“I’ll come straight down.”
Today Rosie Loftus stepped down as CMO
@macmillancancer
Always determined to get better outcomes for people with cancer.
@claire_taylor22
& I will do our utmost to follow her lead
& because she doesn't tweet here's a pic of her doing the hoovering after a meeting...
Here's the
@macmillancancer
eHNA data I presented yesterday. Ranking the top 5 concerns raised by n=5468 women with

A Thread.
Important to acknowledge
@Rachael_Hodges
and her huge contribution in advancing conversations in cancer. When we talk openly we understand more, and when we understand more we fear less

What a wonderful end to 2022 - to see Rosie Loftus awarded an OBE for her work for people with cancer at
@macmillancancer
.
Proud to have her as mentor, colleague and friend.
Go Rosie!
I was on a ‘plane recently.
Take-off was very delayed; snow, covid etc.
Everyone was affected.
An angry passenger started shouting at the crew.
The crew couldn’t speed up global air traffic, but they would keep the passengers safe.
NHS. Same.
Stop shouting at the crew.
Our wonderful
@macmillancancer
@Mac_Horizon
centre is letting us do our telephone consults from there.
Our cancer centre outpatients is now a haematology day unit creating valuable ward space.
All acheived in 2 days by everyone pulling together.
You want good news?

So very sad to see this.
18 months ago this Government were talking about 'levelling up' R&D spending in the UK
Now we see an amazing organisation that has designed, driven and disseminated cancer research having to 'wind down' after 22 years.
Prof Stephen Hursting, nutrition biologist N Carolina, gave plenary lecture on obesity-cancer links, now in
#NIHR
Cancer & Nutrition Collaboration session on mechanisms of how diet influences cancer risk. Coffee has anticancer effect. Calls for ‘precision nutrition’.

Nonsense.
Show me data anywhere that MFS and pCR are “patient centric” and that it is “most important to patients” - what, more important than OS??
