@memesmsw As a “rule of thumb”, yes. FWIW: a local company says, “we offer a 6% match.” Their match is 100% of the first 4% of your salary & 50% of the next 4% of your salary. To get the 6% match you have to contribute 8% of your salary. Worth double checking the fine print!

I’m an AUM-based advisor. I charge ~1%. Yes, losing 1% of returns could destroy your plan. It also doesn’t take investment management to create >1% of “return” in someone’s financial life. Being closer to your goals is the only return that matters.
