I’m teaching my kids how to do “simple” life skills: sweep/use the vacuum, cut veggies (with supervision), address an envelope, introduce themselves politely, feed the dogs, hygiene, etc. What other things can we add to our list for young kids? It’s never too early to start.💖

I’ve talked about this before but it never stops being amazing to me: If I’m stuck on something in my writing, I can unstick myself by touching water. A shower. A foot soak. Hell, even washing my hands will do it sometimes. It feels like✨ magic!✨

My 7yo blows me away sometimes. He’s a master LEGO builder and while I was admiring his latest creation, I asked how he comes up with all his designs (he never uses the booklets). He said, “If you have fun, you get smarter. So I keep building and I get better!” 🥹💖

At least once or twice a day, I find little treasures tucked into my pockets—usually beads, small toys, or candy. It’s my 3yo who puts them there, and I never feel him doing it! He’s like a tiny, talented reverse pickpocket. 😆 Here’s today’s first find: gold Mardis Gras beads.💖

Our neighbor left this darling arrangement of clover & daffodils, with two foil wrapped chocolate bunnies, on our porch. The card was addressed to my children, and the boys were thrilled to find this extra (and extra special) Easter surprise!💖🐣 I hope you all had a lovely day!

You know what I miss? I miss blurry, not perfectly styled/posed/cropped pictures that were taken in the excitement of a moment without thought for anything other than preserving the feeling. Those images are so real and beautiful to me, and they are almost extinct now.

The windows in my house are old so I can hear with pristine clarity as neighbors (and folks from the neighborhood who I do NOT know) greet my dogs by name with squeals of delight and proceed to have long conversations with them over the fence. 😆😊💖

I will always support my kids in whatever activities they like and want to do. But my 7yo just joined his school dance team and seems very interested in musical theater, and friends . . . this grown up theater kid/band and chorus girl couldn’t be more thrilled. 💖🥰 🕺🎶🎤🎷💖

I give 5yo quarters if he does certain chores, but he didn’t hear me properly when I told him they were “quarters”, so he’s been calling them “coinies”. It is so cute. 🥰 I’ll make sure he knows the correct name, but I’ll enjoy this adorable little kid time a bit longer first.

Just thinking back to the feeling I had as a kid when I got a new Babysitter’s Club book and would snuggle into a comfy chair to devour it. That was the best. I hope my kiddos want to lose themselves in books that way someday too.💜

First: She is 100% okay. Now, let me tell you our latest puppy-raptor tale. Madam Mayhem, a.k.a. Cora, got hungry in the night over the weekend and when no food could be found, climbed ONTO THE DINING ROOM TABLE and ate an entire 24 pack of crayons. And spit out the wrappers.

I think my baby—if he found himself alone in a forest with no one to care for him—would be just fine. I didn’t provide breakfast fast enough today so he crawled over to a bag of oranges on a low shelf & gnawed on one THROUGH THE MESH BAG. Message received, my resourceful child.

Read widely. It’s not BS. I’m working on a R&R right now and have just had what I hope others will see as a major connecting and turning point in my story thanks to a structural “Ah-ha! moment” I had while listening to the audiobook of an incredible novel. Read widely. It helps.

Sigh. My children are opposites in a number of ways, but the one that causes the most friction is that 7yo is a “builder” and wants to create always. 3yo seems to be a “deconstructor” and wants to see how everything works and fits together. These two goals do not align.
