One thing we don’t talk about regarding racism is the amount of time we spend processing the interaction afterwards. Replaying the moment, what was said & done, what wasn’t, what should’ve been said. How do you stop the replays? Racism is tiring AF.

@deray When police wear a uniform and carry a weapon the should have a higher standard to get it right. To not park on the wrong floor, to notice the red rug, to notice their surroundings, to not immediately pull their weapon. This case represents so much of what is wrong with system.

@KateHeeChoi I think entitlement. I once had a prospective visiting student - a white woman- ask me what it felt like to be the department token! I kid you not! I wasn’t sure if she meant as the only woman of color or ethnographer. I was so shocked/angered I don’t even remember my response.

If you are not Black, please take a moment to read & imagine if these were your babies. Now imagine how outraged you would be & what you would do. Or maybe how our country would react en masse. Treatment of our babies happens like this everyday. I’m beyond enraged.

Cops in unmarked cars grabbed a group of Black children trick or treating in an affluent Brooklyn neighborhood, lined them up against a wall, searched them, handcuffed them, then took them to a police precinct, where they were released without charges.

Guys, fill out your census cause my mom is a sociologist and she needs the data. Don’t do it for the government, do it for Azie’s Mommy. Thank you.

Had a great opportunity to talk with amazing incoming freshmen at the UW today. I was asked to share advice I wish someone would have told me as a first generation student. Having time to think about this more I wish I would have said......

Bye #ASA2018 Great time seeing colleagues and friends. Had a bit of a revelation on my panel today. Realized I’m a different kind of sociologist/scholar. Good news is that I felt 100% okay with that. I absolutely love my career. I hope we can all find a peace like this.

How do we sociologists often ignore and reproduce the inequalities we study? Check out this thoughtful article by ⁦ @victorerikray ⁩ This is so relevant to a faculty meeting we recently had.

We only clutch our pearls because she is a rich White woman. Hundreds of thousands of men and women who are disproportionately poor and people of color, with chemical addiction, trauma go through this daily. We should care for them and work towards change now!

My stomach is turning from watching white men purposefully arm themselves with guns, go out and look for trouble, and then cry that they were the victim and had to take a person’s life. Save your Fing tears. I am so angry. #ThisIsAmerica #McMichaelBryanTrial #RittenhouseTrial

@ScottHech We must remain principled. If we are against the death penalty for some we have to be against it for all. I’m not against it because it disproportionately kills Black people, I’m against it because killing is wrong. Maybe this is the difference in support in this moment.
