Let me be clear. I don’t need damn reading and math coaches to tell me how to teach. I sure as hell don’t need a textbook consultant telling me how to teach. This is my 24th year. I KNOW how to teach. This trend of coaches and consultants is another nail in the coffin.
Field trips…I know the kids love them, they are important, blah, blah, blah… I schedule them for my class, because we have to take them. I’m not a fan. My anxiety goes through the roof. I’d rather stay at school any day. Field trips are HARD work for teachers.
This is my last year of teaching. 🙌🏻I haven’t been to the school all summer, haven’t posted an Amazon wishlist, haven’t bought the first thing for my classroom or students. For the first time in 25 years, I will save my money for my future. I can’t wait for May 2025. ❤️
Any teachers out there having the Sunday scaries on a Saturday? We start back next Wednesday, and I’m already dreading the constant barrage that I know is coming. 😵💫
@RealCandaceO
Women should be independent before they ever decide to get married and have a family. Get an education, live on your own for a while. Know that you can take care of yourself if you need to. Marriage and kids can come later, if that’s the ultimate goal.
Unpopular opinion: I hate getting new students. It throws off the dynamics of the whole class. I know all of my kids, and we have a good little thing going, and then BAM, in comes a little stranger. We welcome them. Sometimes they are great, but sometimes they are terrible. 😞
One day, in about nine weeks, I can let this exhaustion take me over. I will be able to sleep for days, and it will be the sweetest relief. I’m a teacher. And I am tired. Achingly tired.
A parent kept his child out of school for a two week vacation, yet sent her to school this morning with a stomach ache. Told her she couldn’t stay home unless she threw up, even though you could see she was ill. She threw up in the classroom this morning. 😡asshole
I resent like hell that I have to turn in my phone for the next three days for a stupid PRACTICE standardized test! The kids don’t have to turn theirs in, just the teachers! So tired of being treated like a second class citizen! No one wants pics of your damn test!
Showing kids multiple ways of doing a math problem, but then penalizing them on a test if they don’t use a certain method is asinine. The point is to give a student OPTIONS. I never count off for a method. If the answer is correct, and work is shown, it’s correct.
Had an IReady consultant bring “prizes”, aka junk, to a data meeting. She pulled up team teachers’ scores,and whoever got the highest growth won junk. Some teachers didn’t get anything, except embarrassment at the comparison. Stop ridiculing us! All classes aren’t the same! 😡
My district is advertising a $5,000 signing bonus for new teachers. That’s all well and good, however, I would think they would be trying to keep the veteran teachers who have stayed through their constant bullshit.
I keep waiting for little signs saying that I might should stay in education after next year (retirement year). Instead, I’ve had a million little signs that I should not.
Is it selfish to want this break off just to relax and not have to deal with a holiday? I have to host Thanksgiving and Christmas. And I hate to cook. I cook, nearly every night. But I don’t enjoy it. And I certainly don’t enjoy spending two of my days off cooking. 😔
The politics of teaching have stolen my joy and eaten away at my mental health and well-being. The changes I see in myself since beginning this career are astounding. NO job should have the power to tarnish your soul.
Education will NEVER be fixed. The cancer has spread into all the parts of the body. Admins don’t care if they lose us, and kids are out of control. We are fighting a losing battle. It’s a war against teachers, and I just pray we all make it out alive.
@k8roulette2
If I a kid needs a pencil, I let them get one. It’s a nonissue in my class. And they rarely get one. That could be because I don’t make a big deal out of it. We just go on with life. I don’t even make them return it. If I run out, I just get more. They’re pencils. 🙄
For the first time in 24 years, I’m starting back with an unfinished classroom. I worked one day this summer getting it put back together (against my better judgement) and left it. I don’t get paid to work during the summer. And I won’t do it again.
#teachersrights
We have 8 teachers leaving in a school in a school of 17 teachers. 😳 Almost half. And the principal has made every excuse as to why, except for blaming herself and her awful attitude. Baby, YOU are the reason. Just you.
The woman in Times Square with a tiny baby…😡 Why would you take your infant to something like that?! It’s cold, there are germs everywhere, and the noise is deafening! Poor little fella…😢
Already had two messages from irate parents. One because I corrected her baby for shoving another kid, kicking a kid under the desk, and telling the whole playground he saw a little girl’s “privates”. The other because I corrected her baby for throwing food at lunch.

I can’t stress enough that a textbook consultant is NOT MY BOSS. You can come on in sister, say what you need to say, tell me what you THINK I should be doing, and leave. You can even tattle to my principal. I’m teaching. You can stay the fuck out of it. You don’t sign my check
Dr. Seuss week gets old. The dress-up days are useless in the grand scheme of “Reading Across America”. We need to bring back coveted time for kids to read. Not to take an AR test, not for a grade, just to read whatever kind of book they like. DEAR time was always my favorite.
It irks me that parents let their child’s ADHD, or any other meds run out, and then send them to school with a note, “He/she didn’t have his/her meds today. Please excuse their behavior.” YOU are the parents! Stop screwing up your kids brain by not having the meds!
@TeresaHasAVoice
@GAFollowers
I wouldn’t want any of those nurses helping me labor and deliver. I would always wonder what they are really thinking and saying behind my back. A nurse/patient relationship, to me, is stronger than with a doctors. I want to cry and covey my fears to my nurse.
@ModestTeacher
Actually, I do want less work. I want less meaningless pd, less stupid paperwork, less tedious tasks assigned by the county admin which mean absolutely nothing…I don’t need support. I can teach fine by myself. Just LET ME TEACH!
@MRINFLAMMATORY
I’m in year 24. It has nothing to do with being “cut out” for this line of work. I teach in a public school. This job has been systematically failing since I started. I am taking meds for my mental health, and my physical is suffering. Being “cut out”’for work that kills you?
@2017Room204
Oh, but they sure think they are admin. Our math coach actually walks the halls to make sure we are changing classes for a morning math class. Really? What’s she going to do if we don’t. Oh, right. Tattle.
Have you ever been guilted by admin for having a wonderful summer, spring break, holiday, etc. by being told, “Think of the students who didn’t want to go home and had a horrible time and an uncaring family.” I’m not the righter of all wrongs. That’s not my cross to bear.
@FixingEducation
Or, how about we get back to old school teaching instead of trying to make school a damn circus to keep these kids entertained. I didn’t go to school to be an actress or a clown to perform when admin drops by. You don’t like what you see, oh well! 🤷🏻♀️
Yes! Sometimes, a classroom needs to be silent. Whether it’s 6th or 2nd. Kids need to know how to work independently and not distract others. Not everything has to be “partner talk”. 🙄
Thinking about the lessons I teach …my lessons aren’t fun. I do have a positive relationship with my students and make them laugh. But overall, my lessons are high paced, focused and explicit. I do not want my lessons to be ‘fun’ and I like independent work to be in silence.
As I get closer to year 25, I’m really delving into my memories of this career and what it has done to add value to my life. Did the pros outweigh the cons? I’m on 3 types of anxiety meds, I still bring home poverty level pay, and my hope for the future is dashed.Pros? 🤷🏻♀️
@teachergrind
Can we talk about how awful parents are to teachers, and the lack of discipline we encounter each day. In reality, that student needed to punished for throwing a book. And telling his teacher to shut up!? Hell no. And that parent could leave, with her attitude. 😡
S misses two weeks of school for Aruba and Disney trip. Not cleared through admin. Was told by the P yesterday that we had to mark them as “School Activity” absences, not unexcused, so the score on our school report card wouldn’t come down. Wtf🤬 Why do we even try?!
Teacher tip: Instead of assigning umpteen classroom jobs, I choose a line leader each week (in roll order), and he/she handles all jobs that week. He/she is allowed to pick a partner to help. The kids love it. This eliminates a job chart.

👍🏻
@mrteacher024
I’ve kept the same two up since school started, and no one has noticed. I also haven’t changed the standards on my lesson plans, as they are tedious and a waste of my time. I’ve never understood all of the unnecessary crap we have to do for appearances.
@PNW_Teacher
I never said I hated the new child. Teachers are humans. And if you were honest, instead of trying to misconstrue my post, you would admit that a new person throws a kink in ANY situation.
If I have to give up my personal days, so be it. I refuse to sit through another useless, wasteful, and ridiculous PD. I have 4 a year. And I bought 2 of them. Try me.
@OuizerTeacher
Same. We have two. Math and reading. And both are insufferable. They don’t try to pull kids and actually help. They walk around and tell me more things I should be doing.
P asked us to fill out a “My Why” sheet before tomorrow’s f meeting. Why?! Because I need to eat. At yr 24, I need to make it to 25, so I can collect a measly retirement. I need to pay my bills, which is impossible with this shitty pay. It’s a job! Not a calling!
Tomorrow, testing begins. For second graders. And it still pisses me off every time I think about kids who have barely lived past the five year mark having to test. Having that anxiety and stress when they are still babies…😡
Had a meeting yesterday with a consultant, and he had the balls to bring up summer workshops. I will NEVER give up one single second of my 8 piddly ass weeks of unpaid “summer” to go to an effing workshop. You can stick that up your professionally developed ass.
Really pondering if this career was worth 23 years of depression and anxiety. I can’t think of one single year that I didn’t have a knot in my stomach. It’s worse now. So much worse. I feel like I’m serving 2 more years of a prison sentence.
@teachbk
And when they become adults who “make mistakes”, they will be arrested. This take is exactly why teachers are leaving. Students and parents need to be accountable. And teachers need a break from major behavioral issues. We aren’t there to teach “self-regulation”. 🙄
Spring Break stressor: Being expected to “do something”. If I’m asked once, I’m asked a hundred times if I’m doing anything on SB. Sis, if I make it to SB, I plan on sleeping, pissing when I want, eating, and watching trash TV, on repeat.
@jill_zieglar
I think the focus should be on what the students are struggling in. No focus should ever be put on differences between classes. Last year my team teacher had EIGHT sped kids. We know they will always struggle. To compare two classes is asinine.
@EmilyAPaschall
These are the kind of tweets that make educators bitter and jaded. We shouldn’t have to put on an effing circus show to teach. That’s not what we are there for. Students have to WANT to learn. And they don’t. Pure and simple. I’m tired of being a damn performer.
@GlueGobs
I don’t know what the future holds for me, but I can’t let the public education system continue to erode my mental health and physical well-being. My drs, appt was a bit concerning today, and I firmly believe it’s due to the stress of my job.
You’ll never convince me that child beauty pageants aren’t contributing to the sexual exploitation of our children. I don’t want to see pics of your 7 year old daughter in booty shorts or your toddler in full make-up. Don’t come at me about building confidence either. That’s bs.
@RealCandaceO
I clearly NEVER commented an age that women should get married. I simply said they should have some independence first. Too many women get married right out of high school and never have the education to take care of themselves in the event of divorce and death of a spouse.
Last night, I overheard a parent complaining about a delayed start this morning due to severe weather. She said she just wanted to get these kids out of her hair and didn’t know why it needed to be delayed an hour. We really are just babysitters. 🙄😡
@COSBulldog
@theDRAMAgoat1
We don’t get paid summers off! We are paid for 9 months! Some districts divide that by 12 so we can get a check all year. You are most definitely NOT a teacher.
Superintendents, curriculum coaches, and administrators have made education so complicated. A simple reading lesson should not take 10 pages of scripted lessons to teach. Two-digit subtraction with regrouping shouldn’t require learning 6 or 7 ridiculous strategies.
@CherylDobbertin
Ummm, miss, I don’t intend on shortchanging any child. And don’t YOU dare presume to tell me what to do or what not to do. I didn’t ask for your advice or guidance, nor do I need it.
