Thinking about the lessons I teach …my lessons aren’t fun. I do have a positive relationship with my students and make them laugh. But overall, my lessons are high paced, focused and explicit. I do not want my lessons to be ‘fun’ and I like independent work to be in silence.

When I worked in a school that used restorative practice as it’s central behaviour system… It was nothing short of a disaster. This was led by incredibly intelligent people. It simply did not work. I’d struggle to promote it knowing what teachers face in the classroom.

I think a light needs to be shone on cover teachers (I hate the term COVER) Sometimes they teach for five hours a day facing abuse, bullying and contempt from students. Lesson after lesson consecutively. Yet the system cannot function without them. Invaluable heroes.

What’s the point in standing at the door greeting students as they enter lesson if no emphasis on student to greet with courtesy back? 90 “Good Mornings” by lunchtime & only 10 students stated “Good morning Sir/Miss” back? Style over substance? Courtesy is really important.

It is a huge issue that Prince William, President of the FA, is not attending the Lionesses final. I’ve seen several arguments that it is due to Royal obligations but I can assure you that if it were the men’s team he would be there within a blink of an eye. Extremely poor.

@christiancalgie Why do broadcasters have to agree to certain questions in advance? What’s the point if that is so.

One thing I have realised in teaching is just how absolutely vital Key Stage 3 is for building upon in year 10 & 11. I could immediately tell when picking up a class at KS4 how KS3 had been treated. High expectations & challenge from year 7!

I have changed the way in which I teach when the class read texts. I have students track the lines with a ruler in their copies, word by word and line by line. In the midst of reading I cold call - recall, comprehension, linking & context. Huge effect. SHAPE of course!

Inconsistencies in expectations, routines, and work ethic breed resentment, with staff pitted against each other and students seeking out preferred staff. Ignoring these inconsistencies and further, allowing them to deepen is like taking a wrecking ball to school culture.

I'm thoroughly enjoying @amymayforrester 's book on pastoral leadership. The paragraph discussing the perils of cultures where students exploit staff to undermine each other is outstanding. Inconsistency inevitably gives rise to resentment and unravels culture entirely.
