Given the Francis mess, I would recommend that for disaffected Catholics looking to become Orthodox, that however they are received that the renunciations be utilized. Orthodoxy is not a refugee camp for people to be angry about whatever they were before.

Sometimes Protestant apologists hurl the claim that the Orthodox Church is "apostate." But a necessary condition to even be a candidate for apostasy is that you have to exist in the historical timeline and record. Protestantism can't even rise to that level.
