It’s okay if the new Star Wars isn’t for you, because this is who it’s really for. Star Wars at its core has always been for the kids, whether it’s the OT, the PT, or the ST. Kid me loved the Prequels, I’m happy that new kids get to love Star Wars with the Sequels.

Don't try to include George in that. He literally forced Expanded universe authors to avoid certain subjects, change events in their books, ect. Everything they did was directly approved or thrown away by him, to make sure the continuity stayed true.

People will say "Thats not Luke Skywalker" Yeah no shit honey, that's the point. He's lost and broken because of what he's done or failed to do. His arc is about rediscovering himself and doing what's right, regardless of the past. By the end of the movie, he's soooo back.
