Hands down more content in Soumaya’s thread than the pay transparency article referenced! Replete with amazing links - including Buffer CEO’s revisiting of decision to be transparent, and major Euro legislation on the horizon. Calling all pay transparency nerds.

A newly published paper by @zoebcullen is called "Is pay transparency good?" Note: 10/10, five stars for the clear paper title. OTHER ECONOMISTS PLEASE TAKE NOTE.

Colleague:”Why do COVID-19 research- you’re bound to be incremental!” So what. If 100s of us work to collect the data we need right now to allocate resources and reduce barriers to access, we may still fall short of socially optimal coverage and timeliness. #Cometogether

Equal pay day today! Grateful to MIT SMR for bringing to my attn: April 2nd marks how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year, averaging across all people. Latinas reach this day on Nov. 20th.

Pay transparency is generally thought to increase workers' bargaining power. But who actually benefits from these policies: workers or employers? From @zoebcullen ( @HarvardHBS ) & Bobak Pakzad-Hurson ( @Brown_Economics ):

Grab has been instructed to “maintain its pre-[Uber] merger pricing algorithm”... for protection "while not affecting Grab’s flexibility to apply dynamic pricing". How the heck is this supposed to work - supply/demand are just inputs!

@DrJLozada @Ron_George @womenMDinanesth In this study, men and women have similar knowledge about what others earn. More information could still disproportionately benefit women- but we do not find evidence of that when we (randomly) introduce more information and track outcomes for a year.

@DKThomp This is only capturing relationships that make it to 2017! If bar relationships are short-lived, there will always be a upward spike at the end. Office live in the 80s must have been more interesting.

@johnjhorton You’re working on a research will!? I had to search for whether JK Toole’s mom published Confedercy of Dunces after his death... with his instruction or not. I’m curious, did you assign the work to a trusted colleague?? Thanks for sharing!

@raffasadun I share your reaction. My read is that it was a political decision, but I’m interested to hear what others have to say.

@Rav_Chaudhary @mitsmr @hbs @pereztruglia @uclaanderson But some individuals knew much more than others! The differences between those that were knowledgeable and those that were not could not be explained by the demographics we collected (age, gender, centrality)

@raffasadun I like to think it’s a reaction to work by @emilybreza and Kaur and others pointing out productivity gains from this pay structure. Wishful thinking!
