An Israeli airstrike today killed Refaat Alareer, writer, translator, editor, educator, and important cultural figure in Gaza. He was a mentor for many. His murder is such a tremendous loss for all of us.

As a Palestinian, last night’s event on Capitol Hill to commemorate our history was extraordinary. We heard stories of Nakba survivors, we cried over poems dedicated to our mothers and homelands, and we defined our freedom as a community.
Our story is ours to tell.
