The problem I have with most threads that outline the boxes that MUST be checked to get into a good PhD program is that they always ignore luck. There’s an element of randomness that no amount of real analysis courses can combat.

It’s official! In the fall I’ll be moving to Philly to start my PhD in Economics @Penn and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m especially grateful for @cornwl and all of my professors at UGA that have helped get me to this point. Forever a dawg but ready to try out life as a Quaker!

I will never forget the first midterm I took at Penn: 24 hours, open note, open internet, for econometrics (mostly on Bayesian inference) I spent the ENTIRE period working on it and got ~a 27/100. Barely a point per hour of work. I was certain I would fail out of the PhD 😅

Flex your lowest academic low score. To remind us that almost everyone fails at some point in life but it isn't the end of the road. Just a memory in the end. Mine was 27/100 in Engineering Math 2, just a year after I'd scored 99 in 12th boards. Much needed kick in my butt.

My experience has shown me two things with respect to covid: 1. It only takes one incident/one time being careless to get it 2. It is so important to wait the proper amount of time before getting a test. Otherwise you stand to infect a lot more people Be safe everyone
