A bug was found in XMR's GUI/CLI decoy selection, allowing chain analysis to guess a real spend with high probability if the spend is exactly 10 blocks old. While not severe (due to custom wallets with different decoy selection) it's recommended you updated to 18.2.2 today!

The reason zcash isn't used is because people do not trust it. Zooko destroyed their reputation by tweeting about locking up criminals using zcash. It was about as disastrous of a pr campaign as you could imagine. They never recovered and XMR continues to mog it in actual usage.

An important note for the people saying "run your own node" to avoid the chain analysis technique against XMR is that the clearnet does not encrypt what goes in and out of your node, so an ISP can spy on you in this manner. They can figure out txs you send. So use TOR.

Today is the one year anniversary of the Zcash spam attack. Because of Zcash's low fee structure, the attacker was able to increase the blockchain ~225gbs in size, while also causing an abundance of wallet sync issues. It cost him roughly $10 per day. The attack is ongoing.
