Man the last 4 years I’ve been trying to put my family in a better financial position
I worked 2 jobs for a long time started several side hustles, cleaning business, Shopify store, YouTube channel. Some other stuff I can’t remember
But buying a Udemy course
If getting into tech is your goal for 2020
I recommend building a community around you
Build relationships with people who already developers
Get to know people who are on the journey with you
Look for and help people who are at the start of their journey
All I have to say is that when 90+ years old on my death bed
My mind is not gonna on Tailwind or CSS
It’s gonna be on was I a good husband?, was I a good father?, did I do my best for them?
Y’all gotta stop getting y’all blood pressure up over this stuff
@kapehe_ok
I was making 45K a year with a wife and 6 kids, I felt horrible that they trusted me to provide for them and I was failing so miserably.
Tech had the salary and working conditions (remote) that would allow me to give them the life they deserved
I have finally launched my eBook! 🎉
"Break Into Tech with Twitter"
This Book is 30 plus pages of actionable advice and resources told from my experience using social media over 10 years to get really cool opportunities!
Priced at $10

The best part is this is just the start my ceiling is pretty high.
Yo!
I'm super hype to announce I'm joining

I'll be learning about identity and authentication. Continuing getting to know people in dev communities and sharing the tips & tricks I learn.
Ready to take on this next level in my career.
I honestly feel like I'm ready for a web developer job.
Of course I don't know everything but I have a genuine desire to learn and become better.
Working at a full time job, parenting and learning to code has been difficult but I did anyway.

If your goal is to get a job in tech
I recommend building a community
Make relationships with people who already devs
Get to know people who are on the same journey
Look for and help people who are earlier in their journey
The main reason people stop when they’re struggling isn’t because they’re struggling
It’s because they don’t know that struggling is appropriate
It’s because they don’t know they’re exactly where they should be
It’s because they don’t know everybody struggles at this point
TIL: You can return arrays from functions just by wrapping the values in []
I always thought I had to store the values separate in a array and push each value then return it.
This was really helpful for me to learn
Some dude commented on my blog saying “don’t get into development because of ‘good money’”
How about do whatever makes you happy because it really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of life
The best compliment I’ve ever received was when I went all out for my wife’s birthday
My daughter rode with me to pick up her mothers breakfast and my daughter said
“When I grow up I hope I have a husband like you, that cares about me”
I almost cried, had me high for days
I can't believe I work for a tech company like this is crazy. All I've known is call centers, factories, low pay and bad treatment.
It still doesn't feel real!
Looking to break into tech?
I wrote an into article about to use social media to create way in for yourself!
This will be a series I would love some feedback!

I’m so proud of my wife! 😍
She loves to draw and plan stuff out. So, she took those things put them together and made a digital planner shop on
@Etsy
It’s been going pretty well for her!
Was 33 working at factories mostly 12 hour shifts and lots of forced overtime, had a wife and 6 six kids
Learn to code on nights and weekends and networked locally and on Twitter
Here's my story:
How To Build Relationships in Tech Thread
If you want to grow your relationships in tech. Start thinking about what you can do for people instead of what you want to get.
Start helping people who are looking for help, go into the mentions of an instructor and answer questions
We’re looking for dev career oriented talks at egghead
promotions
networking
negotiation
marketing yourself
interviewing etc
We’d would love to have you speak it’s paid and you earn royalties! 💸
Apply to our open CFP here
I told
@techgirl1908
I used to work in a factory that made the stuff that goes inside of twinkies and she said my next talk should be called
"From Twinkies to TypeScript"
😂😂😂😂
My son (14) wants to start doing graphic design and "freelance" sounds weird saying that for a 14 year old
I told him to recreate my book cover for practice and I'm very impressed at his first attempt!
There comes a point in your life when you don’t need to read anymore books, you don’t need anymore advice, you don’t need to listen to anymore podcasts.
You just need to do the work and see what happens
I was concerned about how my favorite escape room was gonna survive during covid
So now they're doing the escape room over zoom and someone else is trapped and we have to save them and talk them through it.
It's getting book upped like hotcakes!
This isn’t an easy way to get a job
But I feel like building a clone app in the tech stack that a company is using
and showing it to some one who works there is more impressive than a resume
When you’re boiling water it looks like nothing is happening until the water starts bubbling
Chemical changes you can’t see are happening as soon as the pot meets the flame
If you’re changing something in your life remember it takes time and every action adds up to your future
Every time I’m writing copy it feels like
@amyhoy
is on my shoulder telling me to “focus on what the reader wants, the reader doesn’t care about you”
Helps makes my copy customer focused
I donated different causes this week
I'm not saying this to brag
I NEVER had extra money before getting into tech!
I want to help someone else Black get into tech as well
I'll help you build a community using social media
DM me!
Got some good f’in news this morning
Can only thank God
Just last night I was wondering how I got here, I grew up so rough af
Every day I’m scared I’ll lose it all because I’m not supposed to here.
then I get some news like today and let’s me know I’m doing the right thing
I really got on stage at
@ReactMiamiConf
was my authentic self
I could literally feel the crowd vibing and being engaged
Afterwards people were coming up to me quoting lines from my talk
It felt good give a talk people truly enjoyed
Imma be honest with y’all
I’ve been battling fear and all kinds of self doubt while recording this course
I’m going to keep on pushing through it though
Really proud of my son
he's 11 and use to lack accountability
But he's been apologizing for his mistakes lately and trying to do better
I told him several times this week, I've noticed the work he's been putting in and i'm proud that he maturing
People aren't always looking for an expert, they're looking for someone who's further than them.
You didn't ask for a Tour de France winner when you were learning to ride a bike.

Yesterday, I told my son, he was a great teenager
Because of the way teens are shown in media wanted to give him some positive reinforcement
He was so surprised when I said that. So I told him all the reasons why he’s great.
My wife told me this weekend that she loves how I still try to impress her even after having 6 children and over a 10 years of marriage.
She said it makes her feel like I really value her.
