I logged off at 2330 last night. How much later do you want GPs to work?
PS. GP services run 24/7 - it’s called GP Out of Hours between 6pm-8am (and still isn’t an appropriate place for patients who need hospital admission/emergency care)
#GPCrisis
Lovely pic of Pru.
But the scapegoating of GPS is not so lovely.
If you're lying on a trolley awaiting admission a GP Is not what you need.

Doctors train for 10years+to become GPs to assess what’s going on &help patients in the best way possible. It’s shocking that Labour would suggest this. It puts patients at risk while simultaneously devaluing the expertise of GPs

@lizzie_toberty
It’s a lazy line. One that just rolls off the tounge to point the finger at GPs.
As a Gp I also hear from patients who can’t be seen in ED. Who get taxis instead of ambulances. Who were referred to a specialist in nov 2022 and still haven’t been seen… the problems are systemic

When I do GP 111 shifts I often get told people’s GP surgeries are closed-but ive started quickly googling the surgery and haven’t found a closed one yet. Some of the callers, when they give permission to access notes have also already had a telephone consult with their own GP..
@DrAmirKhanGP
Well done Amir. Thank you for speaking so calmly and getting the message across. Mr Thomas is misinformed-GPs DO work evenings and weekend it’s called the out of ours service (and increasingly the day time work is spilling over into this time too)
#GPcrisis
As GPs squeeze more into each working day - it’s time to own that. If GPs are putting in 12 hours+ a day then they are working 3 (4hr10)sessions in one day
