Pepe Sanchez came out of retirement at age 44 to play for the club he is currently the team president of.
Forced into action due to multiple COVID cases, Sanchez played 29 minutes, finishing with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists, including this behind the back DIME

Not even clowning when I say I love this. "Fun" sports logos will always trump "serious" sports logos for me. You see what they did to the iconic 90s Charlotte Hornet logo? Turned that nigga into the Batmobile.
(and yes I know a clipper is a type of ship.....please ....don't)
Today would be John Chaneyβs 90th birthday. Itβs hard to boil what his impact was into just 280 characters.
Marc Jacksonβs eulogy is a perfect encapsulation of what he was all about and is something that I often find myself going back to

Absolutely no info on this at the moment - but could definitely see Nick Nurse bring in Portland player development coach Mark Tyndale to his Sixers staff.
Tyndale is of course a North Philly native who started at Simon Gratz and Temple, and served alongside Nurse in Toronto
ESPN Sources: Nick Nurse has reached an agreement to become the next coach of the Philadelphia 76ers. Nurse β who won an NBA championship and a coach of year award with Toronto β now gets to coach the 2023 MVP Joel Embiid.
Temple lost both of its true buy games this year (Wagner in the opener).
Tonightβs loss is very likely the worst loss for the program in the modern era of college basketball. UMES is a sub 300 KenPom team, and the Owls have never lost to a sub 300 opponent in the KenPom era
Today is of course 30 years since John Chaney and John Calipariβs famous postgame altercation.
But the pair became good friends after the incident and Calipari eulogized Chaney at his funeral in 2021. (1/2)
Ted Silary was THE standard covering high school basketball. I spent hours and hours and hours pouring through info on the site that he so meticulously compiled over the years.
RIP to an absolute pillar of the local high school sports scene
i'm a multi graduate of Villanova; bachelor's and a master's. my family has donated $50k+ on each of the last 1842 days the last 8 years. i will not attend one more Villanova Basketball game until Kyle Neptune is gone. this is an abomination.

Lmfao imagine being this obtuse. His output at the plate is only above average and not that impressive given his limitations in the field
Raised in the Raymond Rosen projects of North Philly. Dobbins High, University of Virginia, one of the greatest players ever. Temple University, University of South Carolina. 3x National Champion. Hall of Famer.
Not saying Temple has an at-large quality resume at the moment but the Owls now have two Quad 1 wins on the road (at Vanderbilt and at UCF) and no bad losses
@PanasonicDX4500
Does that say more about the limitations of WAR? Heβs an atrocious -18 defensive runs saved playing LF. Not a plus baserunner. His OPS while good is a bit skewed since his number is more weighted to his SLG, which matters less than OBP

A man born into abject poverty in the Jim Crow South during the Great Depression. A man who never stopped fighting for those without a voice and a man who believed in people many didnβt even give a chance to.

Also, I loved that Temple team too- theyβre the biggest reason I got into basketball as a kid
Temple menβs basketball was badly in need of such a shot in the arm. It may have just gotten it this weekend. Critical few weeks ahead with the transfer portal opening tomorrow

Had to dig deep to find this, but hereβs a clip from John Chaney on Lynn Greer III for a story I did in 2017.
He had hoped Lynn III would choose Temple out of high school and said if βheβs anything like his father, heβs going to be one great, great kid. Great player, too.β

Yessir! First coach menβs or womenβs to take three schools to a Final Four. Always loved how to read how connected her and Coach Chaneyβs programs were at Cheyney. So rare for that time, so much greatness in one place.
Also, hope youβre doing well!

Shedding/sustaining your blocks quickly and consistently are a decent predictor of being able to generate any of those outcomes. No different than say hard hit% in baseball. If youβre lining out every time, thereβs no positive outcome, but those are more likely to be(come) hits
Officially official. After everything, Temple ends up with as much of a home run hire as it couldβve. Local guy whoβs had a ton of success recruiting in the region and beyond
Looks like Templeβs Will Cummings has won MVP in Franceβs top circuit, LNB Pro A. The league is considered one of the best in the world outside of the NBA
I completely missed that both the head coaches in this game: Aaron McKie and Jerry Stackhouse were traded for each other in the NBA. Thatβs wild (and maybe unprecedented in college?)
Is it baffling that Temple hired a guy from Bucks County, has recruited Team Final better than any coach the last few years, and has an impressive track record at Penn State and Miami?
Now that Temple will be wearing Nike for the first time since 2005-06 (John Chaneyβs final season) ...
... Itβs time to bring back both the 1999β2002 and the 2002-2006 versions of the Nike era uniforms
@BlueDemonDegen
People have lost their damm minds. What an insane thing to say about the NCAA Tournament (we all know itβs just a shitty short term cash grab thatβs only going to further erode long term interest in CBB)
Yes it's early, but Aaron McKie is 3 for 4 on his top targets to start off his head coaching tenure. Have to be impressed with what has happened in a short time.

Temple absolutely has the capacity, potential and institutional factors to warrant a Power 5 invite if it ever gets its act together.
For too long - the school + its leadership have not been aligned in nurturing a truly successful athletic dept nor had the vision to carry it out
Temple announces that the great John Baum will be retiring as the Owls radio analyst following the home finale tomorrow vs. UCF.
Baum served in the role for 25 years and was of course one of the greatest players to ever wear the cherry and white.
Also of note, Iβm pretty sure Eddie Jones is the only player from Temple or the Big 5 to ever have their own signature shoe series. He was one of the first players to embrace Jordan Brand in the 90s.
With Aaron McKie and Ash Howard squaring off, this is only the fourth ever Big 5 game (yes, EVER) between two black head coaches.
The only other occurrences were between John Chaney and Temple versus Craig Littlepage and Penn from 1982-83 through 1984-85.
