I wonder whether Indians who speak English consider themselves cut from the Indian culture. Sindoora (tilaka) is not vermilion. Vermilion is mercury sulfide (in ayurveda HgS formulation is rasa sindura, diff from sindura for tilaka). Vermilion is toxic. Sindoora is not.1/2

Remnants of Abatsahayesvar Shiva Temple, Thukkacchi, TN The current temple was constructed by Raja Vikarama Chola in 12th century. It is the only big Temple built by Vikrama chola, based on moulded clay and fired bricks, built as components of sculptures and vimana parts.

Recd on WA : Stunned to learn that Sushruta had identified mosquitoes as the cause of malaria as far back as 1500 BCE. For the next 3300 years, the West thought that malaria was caused by bad smells (mala aria).
