Let's see what our beloved secular Akbar did in Chittor siege of 1567-68 AD. Once he broke into the fort with his army. Tabaqat-i-Nasiri of Bakshi Nizamuddin Ahmad says that he gave orders of general massacre. I repeat, "general massacre" i.e. kill everyone. Not combat armed men.

Prithviraj Chauhan was held captive on Phalguna Purnima of samvat 1248. Ghori preferred Prithviraj as a local vassal for smooth transition. Yet within 2 weeks Prithviraj was killed in Ajmer & few weeks later Chaitra sudi trayodashi samvat 1249 Delhi of Tomars fell.

Jai Singh didn’t defect. There was no reasonable side left to fight for. It was game over. Dara & Jaswant Singh ji were defeated. Murad and Shahjahan were jailed. Agra & Delhi were in Aurangzeb’s hands. All the commanders were 1 by 1 joining Aurangzeb.
