when beginners ask how to learn spriting,
my answer is a little counter-intuitive:
- 'forget' about improving
- focus on quantity > quality
this was the sheet for my 1st project in ~2021.
quickly churning out a thousand 'good-enough'
sprites was how I got a hang of the medium!
thought i'd hop on the bandwagon and AI upscale some of my 16x stuff to a buttery 32x 👀 now someone just needs to make an AI that draws the 16x then we're all doomed😄
Happy Halloween!👻Here are some textures I made for the

@cure_pixel
this is so fucking cool, interesting how so many familiar pixelart techniques that we supposedly created are just casually in display here, in the 19th century 💀
@donk_donk_
yeah if there was room in the post, i would have clarified that:
- quality still matters, but the pursuit of perfection is a waste of time, especially as a beginner
- quantity of *diverse* work is what matters, rather than dwelling on a specific task
@Multi12409
you need to start slapping ur name allllll over your art broski
needs to be barely visible under the 400 diagonal 50% opacity strips of 'Multi2409'
@meganroseruiz
sora is neither released nor (from what we've seen) applicable for this. process videos can be faked, but please consider that false assertions can muddy the waters and harm your cause
@Rappenem
unpopular opinion- i still prefer c over this. the selective heavy aa draws attention to the 'corners' and reduces the uniformity of the shape for the sake of smoothness. I think a little wobbly-ness wins over im afraid xd
@PxTommi
out of the infinite list of things that are incredible about this, the one ill pick to share is that: there's a unique colour JUST for the boob vein and nowhere else
@kurorosage
@nashor_kim
technology can be inherently evil, like butterfly mines that disproportionately maim children. nfts are perhaps more benign 😅, but at best they are useless, and at worst they exploit our planet and its people, whilst reducing art to an agent of meaningless financial speculation
@Helm_ll
if i've been keeping up, 'banding' is when you make fan-art of your favorite 4-person musical group, selout is what you are if you make nfts, and anti-'alias'ing is when you are against labelling things, right?
@NOP_Pixels
@PixelPengu
this is an interesting tutorial, but u may struggle like me to decide on a base shape without simultaneously defining the interior form. noodling with two shades of gray for the light group and the shadow group (alongside black for the outline) is a technique that works for me :)
@LFTH_Alex
yeah i get you, i think by default im tempted to work for forever on just one sprite until it's perfect, and that's stagnation for me. theres a balance to be made, and forcing yourself to try new things can prevent churning out formulaic results.
@yumipiku
this: plus looking at their art history to see the point where they began using this technique, shortly after a AI tweet spree, suggests so. doesn't mean they're a bad guy, just i think most pixellers would prefer if disclaimers were given
