dunno if itβs the most, but a few years back i made a truly tight street parking; the degree of difficulty rose even higher bc motorcycles were on each end of the spot. As i got out of the car I saw the doorman across the street giving me a long respectful slow clap.
@JakeLahut
This has the same energy as the terrorists behind the 1993 truck bombing of the World Trade Center. One of them rented a truck, reported it stolen - and then came back to claim his security deposit. The FBI was waiting for him.
@AndreaR9Md
during a regular transition, biden reps wouldβve moved into offices while tfg officials were still there. thus biden folks would witness last-minute behavior by tfg-ers, including any crimes - shredding docs or stealing of files, etc. therefore, delay access as long as possible.

any matt schlapp-related posting is required to include a reference to his origin story as one of the stop-the-count brooks brothers rioters at miami-dade county in 2000. sorry, i donβt make the rules.

you would have thought a former state attorney general might have taken away some other, more accurate, understanding from the book. heck, any 9th grader does.
Biden in Pennsylvania: "Today, we are here to answer the most important of questions: Is democracy still America's sacred cause? ... it's what the 2024 election is all about. The choice is clear: Donald Trump's campaign is about him ... he's willing to sacrifice our democracy."

another student from the program, who didn't know me all that well, made it his business to come by every single day, check on me, and take me out for a walk up and down university avenue and a nearby park.

politico being given the opinion also supports the conservative leaker theory. and setting aside the performative outrage about the leak, it seems clear it was done to cement the majority to this maximum ruling rather than anything even slightly less.
one additional thought: from the "every accusation is a confession" files, the made-up stories about cruz and rubio's affairs also show just how devastating tfg felt a true report on stormy daniels would have been to his campaign.
Question on MSNBC just now on why Trump hasnβt attacked Pecker. My guess is that from Trumpβs vantage point, Pecker has a lot of power, bc he can create stories (including negative and even fake ones) about HIM! So he has power/leverage; not in Trumpβs interest to antagonize him.
@CeFaanKim
I... know that neighborhood, know that bldg. I used to park my car in an adjacent garage there. I cannot believe the security guard did NOTHING. Absolutely sickening.
New Stonekettle: Those Who Forget History.
It's fashionable for those who support Donald Trump to quote the Preamble of the Declaration of Independence at me.
But the introductory paragraphs of that document are the least important part:
@KevinMKruse
Beyond the sheer slothful laziness of it, am I wrong in thinking this signifies the complete and utter capture of one of the two major political parties in the US by authoritarian forces?
@brooklynmarie
My neighbor down the block is a police officer who has the blue line flag waving outside his house. I bet heβll appreciate me telling him.

Yes, the Republicans were fantastic on black voting rights in the 1860s.
But how about now?
What happens if we look at what's going on now instead of what happened a century and a half ago? If we look at the 2010s instead of the 1860s?

The amendment applied to Truman because he was president at the time of its passage.
But there is no doubt that the idea of the two-term limit came up as early as the late 1930s, when FDR was prepping to run for a tradition-busting 3rd term in 1940. Ocaaio-Cortez is correct.
@AsteadWH
@Wilson__Valdez
yeah, no.
you must have considered that the raising of biden's age- which originally came, understandably enough, from gop and their media outlets - is a way of signalling that his veep is a black woman. so why is that not included in coverage?
@GratefulDead
i saw him at numerous shows, starting with 7/1/80 in san diego and the warfield shows that year. it became my personal whereβs waldo - if he and his enormous smile were there, it made the show better. fare thee well, bill.
When people say the 2000 & 2020 elections are dissimilar, they are comparing Trump to Gore. But if u instead compare Trump to Bush, the similarity is striking. Like Team Bush, Team Trump falsely accused Ds of a power grab to try to grab power themselves. 1/

at times like these i'm reminded of robin williams' suggestion that politicians wear uniforms like the ones nascar drivers have - with the patches advertising their sponsors right out there.
@sheilakathleen
humongously great story! thanks for sharing. when i first moved to berkeley for grad school, something snapped. there came a point when i couldn't get out of my apartment, let alone go to classes or finish assignments.
@paulkrugman
brooks brothers riot in 2000, which shut down the miami-dade county recount in florida -- with gop celebrating it -- followed by the supreme court's ruling in bush v gore, which effectively did the same thing statewide. purely antidemocratic actions, and hailed for it.
@JoshuaADouglas
This was Scotusβs original sin in Bush v Gore: taking the case in the first place. In doing so it swept aside years of staying out of local election-law cases, leaving those for state courts to resolve.
Did not know this - this was written in 2019. And here we are with the anti-vaxx movement - previously on the fringe - now featured in the political mainstream.
I wrote about Trumpβs relationship with the anti-vaccine movement, and why this was so important to Russia, a little while back. It explains some of what is going on with the COVID-19 vaccine (and why Trumpβs statement today is so concerning):

his deception makes everything so much worse. even those players who acknowledge not getting the vaccine have at least been honest, and prepared to deal with the public response. rodgers just showed a side of his character that is highly revealing and not flattering.

Yes, I was going to say. Today I will include in my prayers my good friend Steve, who died in 1987 in Philadelphia, having had to deny his disease because his parents could not yet deal with the stigma of AIDS; he had just turned 30. Not long ago at all.
@sheilakathleen
Yeah, it takes increasing effort as we take on responsibilities and families and more demanding jobs, etc. to keep those friendships active. Totally worth it, but it doesnβt just happen. Kudos.

this morning in the heartland (midtown), an agitated driver thought i was getting out of a parking space when i was merely adjusting my angle, apologized for the misread, then drove around the block and found another spot. peace in the valley.
@joshtpm
there was a time when a house speaker speaking with scotus justices about possible cases before them would be a major scandal, but johnsonβs willingness to offer this up, let alone lack of shame, really shows the institutional rot of both branches of govt.
i came, reluctantly, for what i hoped was a takedown of rove, as responsible as anyone for how we got here yet now seeking good-boy points in an op-ed. instead

this is not the point of your posting this, but i am compelled to note: 158 pounds across a 5'11 frame is barely more than skeletal. except to someone like ben, who dreams of such dizzying height and weight when he grows up.

true story: when we founded the ultimate frisbee team at penn, we called ourselves the penn ultimates. until someone looked it up in the dictionary 6 months later. "dude, it means next to last." name changed to the killer bees.

at the black lives matter demonstrations last may and june -- while nyc was still the focus of an unchecked spread, with no vaccines available -- the only folks i saw who did not wear masks or attempt to social distance were the police.
The mystifying difference between people of clarity and conscience and the GOP reminds us of the meaning behind the word "values." They have prioritized other things ahead of morality, ethics, respect for the law and patriotism--party perhaps or self-interest.

I wanted a haircut.
So I went up to base. It's nothing special. Dinky little training field where they teach shiny young officers who look way, way too young how to fly helicopters.
Afterwards, I decided to get a sandwich.

used to be you couldn't or shouldn't judge which way justices were leaning by the questions they asked during oral arguments. (often, they'd be playing devil's advocate, or merely curious to hear a line of thinking.) those days are long gone, though.
