Always take a photo of the license plate and taxi driver when you get picked up at any place in the third world or any airport.
Then tell them itβs just part of your protocol and you send it to 3 other people.
The find out to fuck around probability goes wayyyyyy down.
During breakfast at my hotel in Phoenix I met a 91 year old man that just π€― my mind.
I noticed he was diligently filling out papers at his table. They looked like handouts from a workshop.
So I struck up a conversation with him, and then asked what he was working on.
He said,
Do you struggle to wake up early?
I've written a guide explaining 9 simple ways you can wake up earlier and have more energy.

Focus is your superpower.
But most people can't focus for more than 5 minutes...
Use one of these 9 tips in the next 90 minutes to focus better than the average person:
2) Habits are massively overrated
People use habits like they're the container that holds everything.
As my friend and mentee BJ Fogg will say:
"Habits" sit inside of the larger category of "behaviors."
People are trying to make everything they do turn into a habit.

As someone thatβs coached athletes like Kobe on this for 26 yearsβ¦ mental rehearsal, visualization etc are skills that are NOT easy to master.
Itβs a skill like anything else that takes a lot of time.
But when you get itβ¦itβs a superpower of skill/esteem development.
I've done over 19,000 hours of 1:1 coaching since 1997.

I have players on both tours. NOBODY was aware of this.
Phil got lambasted for speaking the truth about the PGA and how they never listened to players.
Rory and others defend.
And now they're blindsided by a bus that Phil said was always there.
What do:
β’ Kobe
β’ Eminem
β’ Beyonce
Have in common?
They use an Alter Ego.
Alter Ego = Creating a new identity that has the:
β’ Traits
β’ Mindset
β’ Confidence
They want to adopt.
But how can you do the same?
1) Don't optimize everything
If you were to do all of the optimizations the life hackers suggest you do...
You would have zero time left in your day to work, relax, and have fun.
You don't need to be doing all of these different hacks.
Because at the end of the day...
@hubermanlab
The problem with so many studies is the βp valueβ is terrible.
Thereβs a lot of βresearchβ passed off as βevidence.
And the nauseating levels the media takes it, runs with it, and rattles the cages of society is irresponsible.
1) List the attributes of your Alter Ego
Create a list of characteristics you want them to possess.
Defining these will help you understand how to use your Alter Ego.
Get specific about:
β’ Traits
β’ Habits
β’Β Attitudes
β’ Behaviors
β’Β Mental models
For example...
@AlexAndBooks_
Exactly What To Say by Phil Jones. (Itβs also the most finished book in history on Kindle, which should tell you about its quality.)
Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely
Metaphorically Selling by Anne Miller
There are so manyβ¦
Create a set of responses to have ready when your negative voice casts doubt on you.
"Who am I? I'm the guy who has studied this for 6 years."
"Who am I? I'm the girl who gave out 400 hours of free calls."
"Who am I? I'm the person who has helped 312 people perform better."
The routines you might have in your life.
But the thing that separates truly elite people from the rest is rituals.
Rituals is about doing something while having a story and a narrative attached to it.
Here's an example:
@SahilBloom
Like a lot of these articles we need to scroll to the inputs.
38% of the respondents were unemployed.
Thatβs going to skew a lot of data and isnβt βrepresentative of the populationβ like they claim.
However, there are values shiftingβ¦ and weβll see how it turns out.
@SahilBloom
Great thread Sahil⦠I wrote the book on this (

Should jam on it with you on the podcast.
People under-appreciate how attitude affects how you approach yourself, your work, and your life.
Attitude is the basis for the alter ego effect from my book.
An alter ego is about bringing a different attitude to how you do something.
It's just anchored to a concept you love.

@MichaelDell

βs book βDirect From Dellβ is what helped me innovate my business model in 1999, and build the largest peak performance training company before selling to Real Madrid.
Heβs always been one of my favorite entrepreneurs. Pure discipline and execution.
Congrats AW.
Say I'm drinking water.
You might say "nice, Todd drinks water, that's my habit too."
No.
Rituals turn things like water into things with meaning.
I'm not drinking water.
I'm drinking the spirits of my competition.
Extreme? Maybe. But that changes the way you play the game.
@stephkorey
Sorry Steph but even your response lacks any level of insight into your failings as a leader. You artfully projected a brand that was the exact opposite of how you felt and acted. That is the very definition of narcissism and a totalitarian.
@McpeakRichie
@hubermanlab
Tip: use third person narrative instead, more powerful.
ie βRichie is living. Richie is going to live.β Or βHe is going to live.β
Been training this for a long time, itβs more effective π
How to become a go-to connector... have people reach out wanting to be in your inner circle... and engineer a ton of luck in your life.
If you:
- travel,
- go to conferences/events,
- want to have a great network locally,
And you don't plan 'micro-meetups'βyou're missing out
6 mindsets for overcoming any challenge:
1) Bring it on
2) I love to play
3) I'm a creative force
4) I'm ready for anything
5) I wonder what will happen?
6) I believe I can change myself
As an entrepreneur, your Alter Ego may possess characteristics like:
β’Β Leadership
β’Β Adaptability
β’Β Determination
β’Β Innovative thinking
β’ Excellent work ethic
It's like creating a character for a movie.
Detailing their qualities helps bring them to life.
My five most polarizing takes:
1) Don't optimize everything
2) Habits are massively overrated
3) Imposter syndrome isn't (exactly) real
4) "Visualize it" can be ineffective advice
5) People overindex on authenticity and "authentic self"
Stack your wins.
Grab a pen and paper.
Create time "buckets" of 2-3 years each.
Write down every win you've had in each of those time periods of your life.
Keep this page updated. Refer back to it anytime your bully voice creeps back in.
2) Imagine your Alter Ego
Envision a detailed mental image of them.
This strengthens your connection to them.
You'll find it easier to embody their qualities from the previous step.
This is like a painter visualizing a masterpiece before putting brush to canvas.
To start...
Personality tests are popular because people love to learn about themselves.
But they also put people in boxes.
People go:
"Ah, I'm an introvert, that means I'm not good with people."
Don't trap yourself in a box.
Last night I spoke to 12,000 people at
@FutureDocsNow
conference in Boston.
7,000 were teenagers with aspirations of being doctors.
They were engaged, enthusiastic, and motivated. Not everything youβre seeing about our future is dark.
There are good, hard-working, and
1) Bring it on
Embrace the challenge.
If there's one thing separating pros from amateurs...
It's the willingness to welcome obstacles and embrace challenges.
No one ever became great at something by running away whenever the going got tough.
Close your eyes.
Imagine how your Alter Ego walks, talks, and dresses.
You may not be able to picture them.
It's okay. Not everyone can visualize.
Instead, try hearing their voice, smelling their cologne (or perfume), or feeling their clothing on your skin.
3) Write a backstory for your Alter Ego
Create an origin story for them.
Outline their journey.
Identify where they want to go in life.
Highlight the moments that made them who they are.
This will create a deeper connection between you and them.
For example...
A sleep deficiency destroys your mental performance.
It causes:
β’ Brain fog
β’ Mood swings
β’ Low motivation
β’ Poor judgment
β’ Difficulty learning
β’ Low impulse control
β’ Slower reaction time
Do these 7 things to get better sleep each night:
@chambleebrandel
@RichGreen012
AWFULLY quiet today Brandel.
Waiting to hear how wrong you were and how right
@PhilMickelson
was.
But I'm guessing that won't happen because at no point in time have you ever been contrite.
Phil said the PGA never listened, players defended, and today they're 'blind-sided.'
A habit is something that's a reflex.
I couldn't care less about turning something into a habit.
If it does, great, but I'm not going to beat myself up if I'm not naturally doing it in a certain way.
This is what I talk about instead:
One of the techniques I give people is the "fly on the wall."
Say we transport you five years into the future.
You're in a room with people who are talking about you.
What are they saying about you?
This is how an audiophile would "visualize" their success.
Being an effective coach boils down to three factors:
Are you good at encouraging people?
Are you good at holding people accountable?
Are you good at helping people make progress?
If you have these three skills, you will never not have a client.
5 key questions to make more progress in anything:
1) What do I want to start doing?
2) What do I want to stop doing?
3) What do I want to continue doing?
4) What do I want to do more of?
5) What do I want to do less of?
Use this framework to strategically plan your next week.
Some people have a negative voice that says "Who do you think you are to be doing this?"
That voice is a bully.
Bullies hate having a challenging spotlight put on them.
You can do this by using what I call a "response proclamation."
3) I'm a creative force
You were born pretending, making believe, and creating worlds in your head.
Then grown-ups said to "grow up and stop doing that"...
But they were wrong.
Don't hide your imagination. Use it.
It's a powerful tool that helps you unleash your superpowers.
Another way to combat "imposter syndrome":
Stack your wins.
Think of them like poker chips.
If you show up to a poker game with a small stack of chips, how will you play?
Relaxed, confident, and aggressive?
No.
More like nervous, afraid, and cautious.
@FitFounder
Iβve done this hundreds of times and they ask if youβre a spy or agent many times. Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey, and Austinβ¦ it never changes.
βIβm sorry, I canβt discuss my work.β
I've helped 1000s of people create their own Alter Ego.
And it's something you can create today.
In the next 60 seconds, I'm going to show you how you can do the same in 3 steps...
1) Love your own process
I was constantly putting myself under the weight of "I'm not gonna be successful until I have that, that, and that."
I didn't appreciate how much I loved what I was doing (and how good I was at it).
Loving what you do means you're winning.
The term 'Self-Made' is for narcissistic losers.
Everyone is team-made, culture-made, friend-made, mentor-made, and family-made.
On Jan 1, I took my kids, wife, nieces, nephews, and sis/bro-in-law down to a frigid 4C/37.8F Lake Okanagan for a polar bear plunge.
It was freaking
2) I love to play
Keep a playful attitude.
There are important things in our lives that matter to us.
β’Β Goals.
β’Β Dreams.
β’Β Pursuing worthy ideals.
It's only natural we take this stuff seriously.
But nobody says it can't also be fun at the same time.
4) I'm ready for anything
Stay flexible, adaptable, and willing to be challenged.
This opens up more of your mind so you can stay ready for anything.
We call this "active readiness" in sports.
It keeps your mind agile so you can creatively solve challenging problems.
I won the lottery on dadβs, but sadly we lost him this week.
There are a million things I could say about him, but I wrote this poem for him instead.
Dennis, Dad, Papa.
In fields of green, where sunlight gleams,
There walked a farmer, with modest dreamβs.
An honorable man, his
6) I believe I can change
Personalities are malleable.
We can reshape ourselves.
We can change our beliefs.
We can create new identities.
That's what the Alter Ego does for us.
It lets us tap into traits and capabilities we haven't used in settings we want to and need to.
