Cik Malaysia is back! The theme this time around is women in male-dominated industries. I'll be releasing episodes everyday this week so that my pals can give it a listen on their balik kampung journey. 🌟🎇🌙
You can catch the episodes here:
This angers me so much.
Did you know that the British also used Agent Orange in Malaya? It was experimented in Malaysia before being used in the Vietnam War since US and UK were allies.
Some bad-ass Malaysian women in their Baju Kurung/Kedah and tudung and kain batik with guns trying to fight some Commies back in the day.
This photo deserves to make it to everyone’s timeline today. Do your part and SHARE/RT!
Walked around Ampang Park (AND ACTUAL PARK NOW!!!!) and my heart feels so warm seeing it used as a public space.
Malaysians and then some - old AND YOUNG. We need more of this. Can’t you see the societal benefit?
I feel emotional for this doing of his, the PM. I kinda feel like Kelantan has finally gotten some form of attention. The kind that it’s been wanting for so long.
In another response to the Prof Muhaya scandal, here’s a link to a podcast that highlights how much Khadijah RA was a successful businesswoman, who was Prophet Muhammad SAW’s employer, and later, became his wife.
Actions speak louder than words.
My 87 year old granduncle told me today, “The key is to keep the mind active.”
He wakes up at 4am to pray Tahajjud. And then continues to read until Subuh, where he works and for the first time in decades, he’s no longer an MP, but goes through proposals people send to him.

’s post about fasting during pregnancy and takutnya baca experience orang lain; baby tak gerak, ada yang baby passed away too ☹️ For pregnant mummies, tak payah puasa okay. Nanti ganti puasa. Baby dalam perut tu lagi penting.
Every Merdeka, I stand in pride of having your blood in my veins, fighting for this country & people who call it home.
Thank you, Tok. Thank you for also being my guiding light, and the stories Mama’s shared of you & yr struggles that continuously gives me hope for Malaysia.
Some have wondered why it’s hard to

right now. This video gives a different perspective (outside of KL) of how life is like for Malaysians that depend on daily wages.
Britain’s colonial past will be on full display at the coronation of King Charles III, with the famed Cullinan diamonds offering many Africans a vivid reminder of their colonial subjugation 💎
Having friends to do “boring stuff” with - like sitting down in silence to read, is the most underrated but genuinely the best kind.
You don’t need to always talk, but it’s nice to have a companion to know you’re not alone.
Someone really needs to give context with student societies in the UK. Since I graduated more than 10 years ago, prove me wrong but..
1. UKEC = KYUEM kids or those with political ambitions
2. MSocs = Non Muslim majority
3. Kelab UMNO = wants free tix to balik Msia for PAU
I feel very strongly abt the Nala article because firstly, it’s written in such a condescending manner. Secondly, it’s such a privileged and disconnected insight of Msia. Thirdly, there are SO MANY MALAYSIAN designers wearing Baju Kurungs and Batik and Songket..

No Fayhsal. You do not respond at 11PM.
You do not leave the media and people scrambling for answers. You do not let nations and families panic for a whole 24 hours. You do not let an EX-MINISTER try to sort stuff out for you. And you do not make excuses of teething problems.
After the Jalan Sultan Ismail tree falling incident, I am hoping that everyone doesn’t get reactive and ask for all trees to be chopped down.
Making trees unbalanced is also a cause of trees falling. And we trim a lot of trees don’t we?
I’ve bumped into so many Politicans in Mekkah and Madinah in the past few days, it feels like I’ve attended a special function of some sort. Everyday, a different Malaysian politician to bump into.
It’s called “White Saviour Complex” at its maximum, and you know it very well that they wouldn’t be feeling any of the consequences, but instead feel pretty damn good about themselves because they’ve “made an impact”.
What a joke. Absolutely selfish
@the1975
.
British band, The 1975, has allegedly been banned from Malaysia after its frontman Matt Healy kissed his male guitarist at Good Vibes Festival 2023.
Healy also spoke about LGBT rights before the band was told to stop performing halfway through the set.
So many things wrong with this. I worked on a project that taught me these folks are mistreated. They pay so much of money to work, but get conned.
If you want to talk abt xenophobia, that's a misplaced hatred bcoz 'our people', are the ones that abuse their vulnerability.
1. Police arrested 171 Bangladeshi men marching together in Pengerang, Johor as they were reportedly heading to a police station.
PDRM says the men wanted to press charges against their agents, who had yet to find jobs for them after 3 to 6 months.
If you haven’t seen this on Astro, please do.
I’ve never seen so much of mental health and sexual harassment being addressed in local context/production.
The KLCC mosque always speaks in Urdu and Bangladeshi to accommodate for the crowd and it makes me feel so warm all the time. Even if it says, “Rapatkan saf” 🥹

Betul tu, tapi the point here is that violence is not the answer. Walau apa2 pun, gaduh Mulut semua, jangan angkat tangan. Ini pulak dia tendang.
Selamat Hari Kebangsaan, Malaysia.
This Malaysia, is ours. We will take back what is ours. That’s our right. And one that we shall never forget.
Merdeka, is ours.
Sincerely,
Cucu Merdeka.
We are all Cucu Merdeka.
I hate to be THAT Muslim but please don’t schedule meetings starting at 4:00pm that end at 6:45pm when I’ve mentioned I hope we can end before 6:30pm to give me enough time to pray. I prefer not to miss my prayers and not have anxiety before buka. 😩
Istana Balai Besar is also the very heart of our Kelantan Royal Family. It's where all Sultans are crowned, and the last place all Sultans, Raja Perempuans and royals are placed before being brought to the Royal Mausoleum.
I really can’t digest the fact that an influential doctor has justified submission to men on medical/hormonal reasons.
There are so many out there who push for women’s empowerment in many ways, and this lady uses her fame to regress.
Everyone's missed the point here - this isn't a personal attack. She's got good intentions, but this shows how the conversation on children's rights and privacy in itself is underdeveloped in Malaysia.
There’s a counter-argument saying that org nak buat isu pasal Prof ni.
Maaf, tapi isu nya adalah terhadap betapa normalisasi & penerimaan org2 terhadap kegunaan perkataan. Dia menyalahgunakan platform. Tak ada org nak cancel.
This is a lesson learned. Ppl make mistakes. Blaja
I know the saying “Di Anak Tirikan” has probably been overused. But you can’t change narratives overnight. You cannot not blame the politicians and the dirty politics in Kelantan.
Just allow us Kelantanese to rejoice in feeling like we’re like other states. Don’t @ me.
I love sujud photos. To watch individuals demonstrate such an act of humility gives me a little bit of hope in this world so consumed by ego and arrogance.
I know it's idealistic, but don't diminish my tiny glimmer of hope.
If you can lift Jovian, your son-in-law with a helicopter, you can very well coordinate, distribute aid and help with rescues.
Commercial helicopters tak nak tolong ke?
Update: car owned by dad, son drove and incited violence. Dad and son have contacted the doctor and it sounds more like to bully the victim more than anything else. Tu la kan, dah Dato kena la entitled.

Your body starts to tell you.
Gastric, inflamed kidney, anxiety, difficulty sleeping.
And sometimes you subconsciously deprioritise acknowledging these because you’re set on working.
2. On Sunday, the roads affected include Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Ampang.
Police have advised those taking part in the marathon to use public transportation.
This is absolutely fantastic. Please support your local arts & culture which has taken a hit during the pandemic by tuning in to the virtual Mek Mulung show tonight @ 8:30pm.

A documentary follows on the 30th.
.. who work HARD, help preserve the culture of batik-making and songket making (social entrepreneurship) while, at the same time sell it at a affordable price.

1. Nancy Shukri has advised a woman, who claims to have been stalked by a man for 8 years, to file a new police report, NST reports.
Acacia Diana’s case has gained increasing attention on social media, after she shared her harrowing experience online.
Walked past by Ampang LRT yesterday. Why do we do this? Why do we commercialise empty spaces?
This is a lovely space where people used to skate and just hang around. But now, it’s being commercialised as if there aren’t empty shop lots attached to this.
Why?
@DBKL2u
This displays a systemic problem where there is no conscience. Before being aired, this would have gone through many eyes.
Saying "it's culture" does not permit its acceptance. You have to start somewhere, and admitting it's wrong & trying to understand the situation is a start.

No PM is allowed to sembah. It’s the protocol. They only nod. Head of Government’s aren’t allowed to sembah. Najib didn’t sembah the Agong when he was PM.
On this gloomy & relaxing Sunday, I’m asking for your help in supporting my Podcast.
I speak to Malaysian women living abroad on their career journey, and motivation.
Give it some loveeeee and it will put you in the right headspace for Monday.❤️

I discussed this with my dad. We asked how Kelantan tries to manage it every year, learning from 2014. One thing done is preparing and empowering Masjids and/or other religious centres equipped. Other than Dewans (not many in KEL)
Just sharing!
Finally got, and unpacked my Keffiyeh. Brown, and beautiful from Hirbawi, the last remaining factory in Palestine.
Fishnet, for its connection to the sea; Bold lines, for its historical trade routes and Olives, for its olives’ significance to the Palestinian economy. 🇵🇸 🍉 🫒
Depression isn't 'over a period of three days'. It's longer, and there's no time period to it. Your depression symptoms may have exhibited itself in 3 days, but that's about it.
NHS seeks reflection over the LAST two weeks. You could have it for 10 yrs.
Who needs to admit and take responsibility?
ASTRO, the individuals on the show, the enablers and of course, the individual himself.
You don't have to be embarrassed to have done something wrong.
You should be embarrassed you let your ego take charge.
@BruceDGilley
“Intellectually curious” you know what you’ve said in the paper is so wrongly, prejudiced and worded so poorly you’re just a whiny one. Honestly, what kind of academic integrity do you possess? We know ethics is out the door.
How can you even respect yourself?
I see more and more of manels these days - and men are proudly realising but not taking action because, they get ‘exposure’ so who cares. Plus ‘no women qualify anyway’, but let’s not talk abt giving people opportunities and encouraging women.
Right now, PAS has no other reason to NOT buck up and actually do something for the Kelantanese.
The excuse, “Federal govt sekat” can no longer be used.
Politics is messy, but what isn’t messy is providing the most BASIC necessities for rakyats. Let’s start w H20.
My grandparents passed away 25 days apart. My grandma passed after completely forgetting my grandfather even when she saw his body at the funeral.
My grandma died from a heart attack - she never had a heart issue. I believe she died from a broken heart. 💕
Broken Heart Syndrome
It goes to show that mental health affects physical health
That we should be kind to each other during and post relationships
That grief can kill and we should deal with it kindly too
I’m all for supporting local brands, and I love the craze around them especially close to Raya.
But why are people queuing for more than 6 hours for Saoi?
@sitiawe_
Nothing wrong klu blaja overseas. When I was abroad, I learned how to be a better Muslim. Belajar tak judgmental n suka kutuk org tanpa bertanya & try faham org dulu. Blaja jgk mcm mana org Yahudi & Shia sebenatnya org baik.
Blaja mcm mana jgk org boleh change.
I took him down memory lane today, as part of my project to understand my family, and the nation’s history.
I felt bad thinking how much he’s forced to go down memory, recollecting memories of his siblings who have left him.
Pardon my ignorance, but I have not heard enough of Dr Ang, a Penang-born that has been helping Palestinians since the 1980s, and published a book.
Her interview with Awani on it, is here:
I was taught the fancier the words used, the smarter and more impressive you are.
I started working and realised big words do nothing but disengage your audience/reader. You’re there to tell them what they want to know.
You’re not there for photo ops and to feel smart. Geez.
If you can't explain it simply, you don't know about it enough. We use layman terms because we want ideas to be accessible to everyone.
If a neuroscientist can explain what a connectome is to a 5-year-old, what's stopping you, a POLITICIAN that is SUPPOSED to reach the masses?
@dugaegam
You’re welcome! I think it’s important not to waste anymore energy on getting angry. But instead, educate ourselves to understand matters more.
This, helped educate me and I hope it helps others too.
@imokman
@AmirudinShari
When it comes to rescued, coordination is important because you have such limited time to rescue, and help.
Emotions also run high. But leaders are tasked to stay calm and assure coordination and organisation is done at the highest level. It’s their job.
As extreme as it sounds, I have come across women in rural areas that opt to get pregnant because buying pads are “too costly” and “not a priority”.
Ada je org yg tak mampu nak beli. Significance of this move is big. Start small. Think wide.

Salam YB
@RinaMohdHarun
Kami rasa hal-hal logistik, YB tak perlu menyusahkan diri.
Apa kata YB berbincang dengan
@DrAdhamBaba
untuk merangka satu rancangan 'National Suicide Intervention'. Ramai antara kami (termasuk OKU) yang semakin tertekan dengan keadaan semasa.
"People in the West who look at Malaysia and Singapore tend to see us in a reductive, un-nuanced way. They don't realise we live in a region of unrivalled cultural hybridity and, with that, comes a lot of messiness," - Tash Aw.
We're expanding at The Asia Foundation, and a few positions are open. We're a women-led organisation, with Dr Robin Bush spearing-heading this amazing group of women.
We have two positions open right now:

It seems the one who preached abt Madani don't truly understand the meaning of Madani.
@maxwalden_
SEA and I hate begpackers. Strong feelings abt it, no doubt. It’s a manifestation of privilege. Just cause your skintone’s lighter and you have blue eyes, you get away with it.
Lots of shade thrown at potential begpackers disrespecting immigration laws over at KL Expats group.
@bytebot
The article and reference to “crusades” was all wrong. We all love the past, but it was easy to love when you’re in ISKL.
Malaysian never stopped being Malaysia. You want 70s? A nostalgia trip? Masuk kampung. KL stopped being nostalgic, but doesn’t mean people don’t preserve.
@afifster
I know a lot of people that save a lot of money. The exchange rate can be painful to people, so I don’t judge. Plus not everyone is open/comfortable with everything available/know where to source food.
And I’ve seen how hard these people work to preserve and pass it on. Those working part time to make Batik more accessible by wearing it different ways. Because batik is part of our culture. Or those organising events to encourage women to wear kain batik.. the list goes on..
@AnnuarMusa
Mungkin ni tempat salah kot, Annuar Musa. Please give some green spaces jugak. Kalau nak letak gerai kat sana, parking mana?
Otak kat lutut ke? Asyik nak buat untung je org tua ni.
With
@Khairykj
as the new Health Minister, I'm hoping consideration is given to mental health. Bukan shj create awareness, but providing infrastructure, making help available & providing infra.
Masalah COVID-19 ni bukan shj masalah kesihatan fizikal, tapi juga kesihatan mental.
Is anyone interested in adopting a cat? Buddy is a beautiful, half Oyen 4 year old cat with a grumpy voice but he’s lovely. He is neutered!
He used to live with my grandparents but my grandparents have since died and the new home owners aren’t keen on adopting him.
It’s nice to gain a different perspective rather than jump to conclusions on why some people don’t find

an easy thing.
FYI, Majlis Agama Islam Kelantan and the State Govt have begun their initiatives in channeling funds. 5mil has been reserved for Covid-19, too.
@aidilarazak
Were they Tg Rozlan & Tg Salwani?
They’re my grandaunts and often can be embarrassed by their lack of “KL-ness”. Or rather, maybe all Kelantanese understand being detached from “KL”.
