The level of sexual aggression I witnessed while living in India for several years was unlike anywhere else I have ever been. Once a total stranger, a British woman, asked to sleep in my bed and pretend to be my girlfriend on a train ride because a man walking by in the hall had

11 hours ago they announced they were at the hospital because he had been beaten up and she had been gang raped by 7 men.

Did you ever report the incident to Police? If not than you are totally an irresponsible person. Writing only on social media and defaming whole country is not good choice.

What precedent?
"Of going after countries for war crimes."
My Indian brothers and sisters, I have written about some of the factors that create the problems that women in India face regarding rape and other forms of sexual abuse. I have mentioned honor killings, which makes women reluctant to come forward, and I have mentioned shaming

The idea that it is emasculating to walk on the beach with your wife, holding and kissing your baby, is itself the most emasculated nonsense. Personally, time with my love, kissing my baby girl, loving and caring for both, is peak manhood.
Here’s another story. In August 2023 a minor who gave birth after being gang raped in Rajasthan was raped again at the hospital.
Raped again at the hospital.
I have dozens and dozens of stories like this. Too many to list. Meanwhile

The Frances Gage version we know not only gives her fake Southern slave diction for minstrel effect, it adds things like claiming she could take a whipping as well as any man or that she had 13 kids instead of five. Gage later said Truth spoke before an angry mob, another lie.

Tigrayans speak Tigrinya and live in north Ethiopia. Most are Orthodox Tewahedo Church members. There are 7 million—4th largest ethnicity in Africa’s 2nd largest nation.
I initially found Trump's remarks offensive. But Phoenix TV's chief is a CCP puppet. Worse, she claims HK for credibility but after the HK bookseller abductions, Phoenix aired the struggle sessions. That makes her an enemy of Hong Kong and its people.
@lhkuroda
Reminds me of Frederick Douglass, who was so well-spoken folks didn't believe he'd been a slave, a racist catch-22 whereby slaves were considered either too dumb to be citizens or too smart to have actually been real slaves.
An Indian rape victim wrote to me describing her life in Indian society. One thing she said really stood out.
"The same men who are mad at you for speaking up against rape, if they were mad at the rapists like that then all of us would've gotten the justice we deserved."
@drboycewatkins1
Pretty sure zero ladies out there look at Jonathan Majors and think “defeated and weak.”
Or, for that matter, at an Ebony magazine cover and think “Hollywood.”
I spoke to
@DrTedros
this weekend and other Tigrayans about the situation in Ethiopia to better understand his position and what's happening in the Tigray region. Words can hardly describe the suffering there.
So
@DrTedros
says the world cares more about Ukraine than Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria—bc racism.
But the US gives more to those four than any other. Ethiopia is the top recipient! Ukraine, not even top 7. And 8x more refugees from Africa v Europe.

Hi
@elonmusk
, congrats on Twitter. Personally, I think SpaceX sending internet to Ukraine was even more impressive. There are 7 million people cut off in Tigray. Reconnecting them with humanity, you’d deserve a Nobel.
After Ethiopia's federal government cut its own Tigrayan people off and starved them out for more than a year now Eritrea, author of some of the worst atrocities in this war, is apparently sending its entire army to finish the job. Stand strong, Tigray.
Eritrean forces have launched full scale offensive in all fronts today-all the way from Tekeze through to Irob. Heavy fighting in May Kuhli, Zban Gedena, AdiAwala, Rama, Tserona and Zalambessa. AbiyAhmed’s Eastern command, significant elements of Northwestern command and three
Today I want to write about wartime rape in the two greatest ongoing wars: Ukraine and Ethiopia. You may be thinking, Ethiopia? Ukraine has the direct involvement of a major power, risk of nuclear conflict, global economic impact, echoes of WWII and is in Europe. So why Ethiopia?
Tigrayan women are among the most persecuted people in the world right now yet here they are celebrating Ashenda this past weekend with bright, happy hearts and unbreakable spirits. Here's to you, women of Tigray, every one of you, the brightest light in the darkest night.
Tigray's healthcare system, serving over 7m people, is in ruins. A study out today by
@ProfMulugeta
finds only 4% of facilities are fully functional in the west, 4% in the SE, 7% in NW...and this data is as of June 2021—BEFORE the siege.
I just finished an interview series with a Tigrayan gang-rape victim who now lives in a metal shipping container in Sudan. Khartoum was 100°F today, the lowest it's been all week. Imagine how much hotter it is inside a metal box. Just you, the boiling heat and burning memories.
Tigray is one of the world’s worst ongoing armed conflicts but unlike Ukraine or others, largely unknown, and we should know, and
@elonmusk
, who wants Twitter to be a source of info, can get 50k eyes or more on Tigray with a single tweet, so let me just say, hi Elon.
The main hospital in Tigray, where the Ethiopian govt is starving the people, ran out of food last week and sent home 240 patients incl babies and a 14-yo boy with HIV. “The families said, pray for us, instead of dying here let’s go home and die there."
I hope members of the Tigrayan community take care of their mental health as best they can, as this invisible genocide continues. This is something Tigrayans have kindly told me to do while reporting on atrocities, and fellow journalists regarding my work with Ukrainian refugees.
@Koreaboo
You have to REALLY squint to see what might be offensive here. Turns out, it's the harmless, respectful line about "the sacrifices of countless men and women." China, like some drunk at the end of the bar, is shouting, "you didn't mention OUR sacrifice, which was BIGGER!"
@WSJ
We could have saved so many lives had we acted faster. But we have a president who denied it, called it a hoax, said it was “totally under control,” that it would disappear before summer—all while privately telling Bob Woodward coronavirus is “deadly stuff.”
In Geneva we had a very special doctor’s visit with one of my favorite Tigrayans —
@DrTedros
, whose grandpa skills came in handy when he was able to instantly calm my daughter.
Police recorded 31,516 rape cases in India in 2022, a 20% increase from 2021, according to the National Crime Records Bureau.
That's terrifying. But do you really think there were less than 32,000 rapes in a nation of 1.4 billion?
To put that in perspective, there were 140,902
Powerful words from Abune Isaias, the Ethiopian Orthodox patriarch of Mekelle:

One Tigrayan woman says she was gang raped by Eritrean and Ethiopian troops while pregnant, another was raped until she could not walk (she had to crawl away), another and her 89-yo grandmother were raped, so many rape cases it's beyond medical capacity.
The Time 100 came out last week, in which
@arynebaker
describes how Nobel Peace Prize winner and Ethiopian leader Abiy Ahmed went from inspiring hope to waging a genocidal war against his people in Tigray.
Good morning, the biggest story in Africa remains Ethiopia where the gov't and Eritrea continue their genocidal campaign against the people of Tigray and 13 million are now desperately in need of aid, meanwhile 22 million across the Horn of Africa are at risk of starvation.
The UN voted to extend its monitoring mission in Ethiopia, where it believes war crimes may have taken place in Tigray.
This is great news, but the vote also reveals something disturbing about African politics and when we choose to intervene generally.
Perhaps the greatest writers in modern Ethiopian history are Haddis Alemayehu, known for his 1968 masterpiece Love to the Grave, and Baalu Girma, known for his 1983 work Oromay. But my personal favorite is the Ethiopian Dante—Tigrayan writer Sebhat Gebre-egziabher.
“This is one of the … worst sieges of modern history,”
@DrTedros
told me. “There are 7m people sealed off from the outside world for 18 months now. I haven’t spoken to my relatives bc telecoms are cut off. They are starving. But I can’t send money because banks are closed.”
Thread on how Trump—who put us all in peril by ignoring Covid—predictably got sick himself, exposed military families, then shit on those families by suggesting it was THEIR fault.
According to Meadows, Trump tested positive for Covid on 9/26. On 9/27 he held event w/military families. Here’s what the Post said about it: “At Trump’s insistence, few were wearing masks…He wasn’t worried about others getting sick, but he did fret about his own vulnerability”
Given the unbelievable outpouring of support for my recent remarks on rape and sexual assault in India, I have written down some further thoughts on the matter.

Another similarity is how white abolitionists handled Truth and Douglass, controlling the narrative, even their diction, in fact Douglass was limited in what he could say in speeches—no talk of modern slavery, just stuff about his past—which is largely why he wrote his book.

Abiy supporters want Tigrayans to stop complaining because there's a peace deal but the reality on the ground is, the suffering continues as food aid workers still lack full access—and remember, food denial was always central to Abiy's genocidal siege.
The Tigray genocide has been ongoing for 1.7 years and so far Russia, China and India have said MYOB, Canada asked for "restraint," Norway is "deeply concerned," the UK and UN urged peace, but other than a US slap on the wrist...nothing.
This is the moment when US journalists really get to shine. They put on their toughest war rhetoric. Tell Americans about the virtues of sacrifice. And summon the courage to all unite to denounce Putin and assure everyone all the blame lies with him and him alone. It's inspiring.
The US condemned the atrocities as ethnic cleansing and imposed sanctions on Ethiopian and Eritrean officials. But little has changed for Tigrayans since, who are enduring one of the greatest humanitarian crises in the world with up to 500,000 killed.
In addition to using hunger as a weapon of war, there have been multiple massacres, systematic rape, and efforts to shatter the Tigrayan economy. They are now completely cut off from the global community and plunged into darkness.
Ethiopia refused the UN investigation team access to Tigray so instead this delegation of special envoys went and issued a statement politely asking for immediate access, meanwhile the govt's genocidal campaign in the region continues uninterrupted.

Similarly, the food crisis, not just in Tigray or Ethiopia but the entire Horn of Africa, was already bad enough to demand global attention long before President Abiy began using genodical famine tactics.
Yet here we are. And they're still waiting.
An air strike in Mekelle, the capital of Tigray, killed at least four including two children.
