the character of lady jessica, a thread 🧵
she is a lover first, mother second, and manipulator third. in this exact order. motive of manipulation is out of love and driven by survival.
so what if she’s a manipultive bitch she’s MY manipulative bitch and she owns up to that
honestly tessa never stops looking at scott throughout the entire interview. i feel like rhis is a new record for either of them. i don’t think there has been an interview where they look at each other that many times.

justice for the thufir subplot because i’m sad we never saw more of jessica mourning over losing leto?????? the man she broke the known universe for????
denis pick up your pen and find a way to put leto/jessica back in the story… or better yet just direct caladan trilogy xx

home girl wants paul to be happy + owns up to her mistake you guys she really isn’t as evil as some of yall make her out to be/ as the movie made her seem???
dune ii is great but a lot of the pivotal grey aspects in characterizations of MANY characters are neglected like so!
that plus only having the pieces of the love of your life through your two kids and memories and literally nothing else because you’re stranded on a different planet????? i support the reverend mother evil movie version or not
tessa honey if you look at mr. scott moir one more time in that bloody interview no one will buy your “business partner/ platonic relationship” story anymore.

as an avid horror movie avoider (they scare me and i have an overactive imagination in constant overdrive) i am finally watching dr. sleep for the first time since the movie came out please give me strength i know she’s gonna scare me

i prefer this interpretation mostly because i think duncan and leto in a sense are set up in a way to be the moral compasses of characters throughout the series. so the moment you lose both of those characters, that morality kinda leaves.
scott: *physically and emotionally exhausted after a skate and receiving news of a friend’s death* *breathes shakily*
tessa: *rubs scott’s head* *breathes him in* *probably muttering* it’s okay i’m here you did great
me: well fuck *starts crying* wow this is... so beautiful
scott: *just learned friend’s deathe* *finishes fd with tessa in japan*
tessa: *knows he’s hurting* *proud of him af* i’m proud of you *hugs him tightly*
me: this is so soft and beautiful and look at the way she understands him wow *tears up*
fundamentally jessica’s arc is driven out of love for her duke and family. manipulation is what makes her character gray and the decision to push paul to become k.h. on arrakis was out of a need to survive (though paul took the eventual step himself)
don’t even get me started on how everyone even her own MOM i.e. the woman who trained her called her out on why she had paul + that he won’t be k.h.
the motivation for a son is out of love for leto.
movie dune watchers forget that if you read the book her list of priorities are literally the following:
1. leto
2. paul
3. alia (she is barely mentioned though this baby is still fetusing guys)
she is tHE family woman
that scene when he stopped gurney from assassinating jessica and taking the water of life to help out his mom >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
he said genocidal space warlord in the making or not don’t fuck with my mom
so we can see the reason why jessica has her son but twists it to make it out as if she schemes for birthing k.h. is a justification. which people see through because she’s down bad for her man
+ from then on falling in love with your charge is referred to as the jessica crime
wrapping up to say i think lady jessica is not fundamentally a bad person and her primary motive throughout dune has been to keep her son safe, which is kicked into high gear once they got on arrakis
her means of achieving that goal tho…problematic. insanely so. very calculated
on paul taking the water of life!
yes. there is undeniable manipulation (intentional!) from jessica’s part and also (ofc) from b.g.
but it would be reductionist to discount paul’s OWN agency in taking that step. he is ultimately a mama’s boy and wants to help her out
scott: *heavy breathing* *most likely beating himself up for the stumble* *holds tight on tessa*
tessa: *rubs his ear* *keeps a tight grip on scott* *heavy breathing*
me: *wipes tears* this is so soft and beautiful wow *cries a bit more* where can i find a tessa
things to notice:
- scott’s face
- tessa’s face
- scott’s face when tessa turns her head
- tessa turning her head looking all sassy
- tessa’s face when she turns her head
- basically everything
that said i’m not discounting paul being a space genocidal maniac by killing off BILLIONS of people and jessica’s hand in causing this to happen
but when i say her intentions for having a son was pure i meant it. in doing so knowingly to give leto a son she broke the universe
i mean birthing the og space darth vader isn’t good at all but taken from the context of dune + from the perspective of leto/jessica’s love story i don’t think they realized the ramification would be this huge.
or maybe she did but she loved leto too much to not give him a son
i love how in the post-sochi era every time they finish a program they just hug each other like they’ve already won everything they’ve ever wanted it’s like they don’t give a fuck about prizes anymore they’re just enjoying themselves to the fullest at these competitions

have people not replaced the albums with their cd versions in their music library after taylor announced her masters were stolen…? have actually been listening to my cds the past few years by adding them to my apple music instead of streaming from her stolen discography.
