It’s not everyday that Outlander star Sam Heughan visits The National Wallace Monument! It was a lovely surprise yesterday afternoon – we just couldn’t resist getting a picture

I took this yesterday morning. I think it is one of the best views in Scotland - Stirling with the castle watching over the city while snow covered Ben Vorlich and Stuc a’Chroin stand proud behind. The blush of the morning sunrise was the icing on the cake.
One Castle, so many different angles 😍🏰
The Nether Bailey is sometimes missed on a visit to the Castle, but is truly one of our hidden gems.
Have you taken the wall walk?
Robert the Bruce was crowned King of Scots

in 1306.
He left his mark on Stirling and the castle during the Wars of Independence, famously seizing the castle during the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314.
His statue still stands proudly on the castle esplanade.
This morning we’re delighted to be able to tell you we’re opening our doors again from 1 August! 🎉
We’re still working on the details, but keep an eye on our channels to find out how we’ll be managing this.

We've had an influx of snow at the Castle overnight, we're afraid we'll be closed all day today (1 March). Right now, we're looking more like Narnia than Stirling!
We would love to see your photos & videos of our

It's certainly getting colder, but with the winter comes more fantastic photo opportunities like this. 🏔
We want to see your autumn and winter photos, so please share them with us across any of our social platforms 📷
The castle team and

Just a reminder that the castle is closed today, but we are open again tomorrow.
Have you been to the Church of the Holy Rude in Stirling?
Just in sight from the castle walls, the coronation of the infant King James VI took place here in 1567.

This high-flying job is not for the faint-hearted! Our "over the wall" team worked hard this morning to rub down the stone work of our Great Hall before it can get limewashed in its exuberant "King's Gold" colour.
Welcome back – our gates are open once more! 😍
We’re excited for you to explore the castle again this August and have put thorough safety measures in place - we’re ‘Good to Go’!

Some LOVELY pictures to start off Monday morning! One of our managers snapped these images of the 🦁Lion🦁 & the 🦄Unicorn🦄 getting their gold bits done! We rarely get the chance to get up close to these statues that sit on top of the Great Hall.

At the end of the year, a little perspective is always a good thing.
The same is true of photos. Our perspective on this photo is the castle looks great when viewed from any perspective 🤭
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year when the clock strikes midnight! 💜
We love this image of the castle from a few years ago all lit up by amazing fireworks.

We're so lucky here at Stirling Castle to have some of the best views around. When you add the Castle into the foreground, magic happens 🥰🌄
What are your favourite views of the castle?
When walking the wall walk at the castle, you might notice this perfectly round hole in it.
One explanation for it is that it was created by stonemasons for a young Mary Queen of Scots, so she can look out for court members returning from their hunt.

in 1746 that the last ever siege of the castle took place when the Jacobite army fired at the castle from Gowan Hill. The attack was brought to a quick end due to the castle's vastly superior military equipment, which resulted in a great loss of Jacobite lives.
This weekend marks the anniversary of one of the Battle of Bannockburn. 710 years ago today, the battle was fought on the boggy plain just two miles south of the castle.
