~some very belated personal news~
My last day at
@nytimes
was in June. In a few weeks, I'll be starting law school!
Thanks to all for your support and engagement and for reading the news, whatever form it came in. I'll keep sharing things, but for now — onto the next.
Some personal/post-graduate news — I'll be joining
@washingtonpost
in January as a multiplatform editor!
Thanks to The Post for the opportunity and everyone who's helped me get there (especially
@thedbk
)!
All DC coffee recommendations are welcome
Some personal news:
Happy to announce I’ll be joining the
@washingtonpost
this summer as a multiplatform editing intern!
(Catch me in DC all summer checking the facts)
Some professional news — I am going back to
@nytimes
as an Editing Resident!
Thrilled to return to New York and start a new chapter as an editor.
Thanks to everyone
@washingtonpost
for a great (and very educational) year!
New pod!
@BillBarnwell
,
@Foxworth24
and I once again revealed our mild/medium/hot opinions about the upcoming NFL season...
But first, the great
@seanseaevans
came by to drop a spicy NFL take about his beloved Bears 👇

Currently photographing a Maryland men's lacrosse game. A male photog just came up to me, put his arm around my shoulder, and told me to smile. None of the other photogs, most of which are men, are smiling. This happens ALL THE TIME.
Print shift
@thedbk
is my favorite part of the week. The print paper is something I — and many others — always look forward to on Mondays. But change is inevitable. So we’ll still be here knocking your socks off ... we’ll just be doing it online.
Why can't we schedule texts? Technology figured out how to schedule tweets, emails, posts. I just want to write text at 5 am for an 8 am delivery without my mom interrogating me about being awake at this hour
I made it 20 years without getting into baseball and avoiding the stress. But here I am now cheering on the Nationals and feeling myself lose a couple years of my life to the World Series. Thanks for nothing

UMD students! Did you go through a breakup during quarantine? Want to rant about how COVID ruined your relationship?
@DBKOffbeat
wants to hear it. My DMs are open
A voting system glitch in Maryland is delaying some local election results and initial tallies. (including UMD students who registered to vote in College Park!)
My latest for

Back-to-school season in MD — hopefully with some changes to curricula and names of schools for these students.
My latest for

@YarrowGrace
UMD seniors — With your last semester cut short, is there anything you wish you'd done before leaving campus? Were there any UMD traditions or "must do" things that you missed?
@thedbk
wants to hear about it! DM me if you're willing to be interviewed.
Are you from Montgomery County in MD? Do you have thoughts on efforts to rename high schools like RM or change the curriculum at Whitman? Writing a story for

UMD students! 2020 has been awful but we at

Episode 4 of Offbeat is here and it's mourning the end of The Diamondback's print edition. Catch alumni telling stories, me hosting, and
@allhaeleah
talking about what's coming next!
I got my first ever Tropical Storm warning this week. I have also been told to watch a hurricane that may change paths. It was 80 degrees most of this week.
The East Coast is strange.
Despite all the chatter today, we probably won't know the results of the
#Election2020
tonight ... or even tomorrow. If you want to know why, I wrote about it here:
Some people don't get to leave their work struggles at work. Check out this amazing article from
@jillian_atelsek
about the toll it took on two UMD workers (even if you're not a Maryland student).
Michael Brennan, a proponent of the UMD Co-op has appeared with a banjo to sing a song about “fascist bastards.” The crowd is cheering. Some counterprotestors are dancing.
My final episode with
@DBKOffbeat
and it was one of our best! This month, we talked about things UMD students did to make others smile and why it's ok not to spin 2020 into a positive year.

For the first episode of the semester, Offbeat covers quarantine and isolation housing at UMD
The Leonardtown community has become home for many students who test positive for COVID-19. Hear their stories of living in quarantine and isolation — the good, the bad and the boring. (Thread)
To my friends and family at home: blood donors (esp O-negative) are needed in Ventura County! If you can donate, please go to La Reina High on Janss Road and do so.

5 days of "election purgatory" was so stressful,
@DBKOffbeat

Every so often, someone at

Welcome to Offbeat, a new

An army of
@thedbk
staffers went into the unknown to bring you answers in EPISODE 2 of
@DBKOffbeat
