Just had a thought: UNC Basketball had a reunion in 2018 with over 300 Lettermen in attendance from every era/coach. They unveiled the naming of Roy Williams Court at that *private* ceremony. K and Duke only mustered 90 former players for his final game. Family>Brotherhood

This is insane to me. During my time on the team, I don’t think anyone was late for ANYTHING even once. It was general practice to show up 30-45 mins before any on-court obligation at the latest. This is really strange.

At UNC—speaking from personal experience—dirty plays or erratic behavior were not allowed, and we knew as players that it would not be condoned. If anything ever happened that bordered on it, a whistle was blown and it was addressed. And a conversation was had after practice. 6/

Bacot can’t throw the ball to himself. He must work to get in good post position and guards need to make fundamentally sound entry passes. Hubert talked about energy, effort, enthusiasm. It was there at the start of the game and then evaporated.

Regardless of what the score says the last 6 minutes of that half were very bad. Turnovers, fouls, air balls, bad defense. When offense is patient or running they get good shots! No need to force it.

Student athletes, and walk-ons especially, work their tails off to have the chance to represent their universities. Being told you can’t dress out for a postseason game because of some senseless rule is a slap in the face. There is ABSOLUTELY no justification for this rule.

College basketball has hit an inflection point with one and dones. Top players leave every year. Ones with talent don’t stay and learn the program well enough to mentor younger players. Teams are not good. Programs are inconsistent. Quality of the college game is going down.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. College basketball coaches should go back to coat and tie—jacket minimum. Coach Davis looked great earlier this week in a sportcoat. Watching Duke v Zona—Lloyd & Scheyer look like they’re on a recruiting trip and playing golf after.

Well, this is pretty deflating. Cuse shoots 62% from the field and 47% from 3. Heels defense just wasn’t any better than in the last 4 games except for Duke. 3 crucial turnovers (2 off the reviewed calls) were all killers. Just not good enough defensively to win.

I can tolerate nearly any display of emotion, but jawing at an opponent’s bench should be an automatic technical. Automatic technical every single time. Spencer done it multiple times. i.e. they T’d up LeBron and ejected Udoka a few nights ago and didn’t even raise their voices

@RL_Bynum UNC doesn’t employ/utilize graduate assistants. Never thought much about the reason why, but I know the scouting burden on our assistants is big. Hearing things like this makes you wonder if UNC isn’t taking full advantage of possibilities. But we also value consistent personnel.

Actually, one time comes to mind. A teammate was late for a summer morning lift. They made him push a weighted sled nonstop all morning. Being late for stuff just didn’t happen. I’m not entirely sure what Roy would have devised for punishment if someone was late for pregame.

@chuckman1108 Agree completely. My point is that these things occur significantly more frequently at Duke than at UNC (and not just in head to head matchups), and have for decades across numerous Duke players. It is therefore a trend that can be attributed, at least in part, to their culture.
